Portable Pontoon Boat

I have a Eagle Cuda portable fish finder and I want to mount it on my single man pontoon boat but I am at a loss on how to do it. My pontoon is a fishcat 9 and the seat sits out of the water. I know I need to mount the transducer under the water then I need to figure out how to mount the finder itself where it will not be in the way for casting rowing and kicking. Any of you have any suggestions or pics of similar setups that may help?

OutCast (maker of the Fish Cat float tubes and pontoons) makes a bracket for mounting accessories, such as fish finders.

You might even consider buying a Fishin' Buddy depth finder with a strap that goes around the actual pontoon.

I am thinking about getting an inexpensive portable fish finder for my single man pontoon boat but I am not positive on how to read one. I know they show somewhat the outline of the bottom structure and fish at certain depths above the structure but how do you know what way to cast once you see some fish on the screen?
Lets say I am in my pontoon and I am about 100 yards from shore and it shows a depth of 25ft and I am moving horizontal to the shore line then the depth drops to 35ft and it shows a drop off on the finder screen with a group of fish on the drop off ledge at about 28ft. Where is that drop off is it directly under me or is it to the right or left of me? Would I need to just drop my line straight down to get thoes fish or would I need to cast somewhere to the dropoff?

A depth finder isn't made to give you an exact spot to cast to. They're made to give you a general idea of how deep the fish tend to be holding and what not. Some depth finders are more high tech than others. For example some have actual cameras, gps systems, water temp, etc etc. You don't need all of that stuff to put a depth finer to use. Look for the basics like water temperature, depth readings on the fish, and decent structural readings.

For your second question, it again depends on the quality of the depth finder. I've seen the depth finders with the gps which have the longitude and latitude lines and will show you precisely where that drop off is and which way it runs. With a basic depth finder you just have to simply figure it out on your own, which isn't terribly hard to do. Once you run over a drop off area back up and go at it at a different direction. Eventually you'll find out whether it runs parallel or perpendicular to your boat. I normally will hit it once going up and down and once going side to side. One of these ways will show the drop off continuing then you can pretty much pin point where it's at and pull out some fish.
