Pontoons Boat

Looking for information on how much just the pontoons weigh on a pontoon boat. Just those alone.

Depending on length and diameter. Less than 100 pounds. .008 aluminium is paper this. Mine are 20 feet and 23" diameter and they are about 85 lb each

I had always called these suicide trailers, but in fact they do greatly lower the center of gravity. Have to go from SC to FL. Have any experience with these strange trailers? Have a chance to buy boat and trailer but this poses the major question of safety.

Great trailer and doesn't take up near as much space as the Bass Tracker trailer. I traded my 1994 24' bass Tracker trailer where the boat sits on top of the carpeted bunks for one where the bottom of the hull rests on the trailer. It lower to the ground, but easier to launch anywhere. These have the tires that are designed originally for the heavy forklifts and with that short, narrow axle; don't have a problem in tight turn areas. Also, when the boat if off the trailer and at my dock; storage space is only 4' wide X 24" long. The tracker trailer takes up 9' wide X 24 ' long. Much smoother ride on the freeway and not sitting so high up in the air and causing a wind drag. Better deal all the way around. Just remember when entering or exiting gas stations; go easy over the dips and you'll have no problems.

I have a pontoon boat that I have on a trailer with carpeted bunks. The boat is used in salt water and has expensive anti-fouling paint applied.The boat is a bitch to launch & recover due to the friction between the pontoons and the carpet. I want to install glides (slides) over the carpet but the glide manufactures don't know if the paint will be worn off. Has anybody had experience with this? Mike

It seems to me that if the boat is hanging up on the carpet to such an extent that it jams, then plastic slides could not possibly remove any more anti-foul than the carpet already is.

I have not had this as a problem myself, as the boats I anti-foul tend to stay in the water most of the time, and the ones I pull out a lot I don't anti-foul.

My Father-in-law drilled holes in the bottom at the back of the pontoons on his boat. Last weekend we tried to take the boat out but it seemed to sit too low in the water. He put screws in the holes with rubber washers to plug the holes. If the holes are not air tight will air be forced out of the screw holes when we put the boat in the water? When we unscrewed the screws it seemed to suck air in, is this possible? Any hints or knowledge shared would be greatly appreciated.

Pontoons are not only airtight, but also pressurized.

Pull all the plugs and have a qualified technician pressurize the toons, and seal with aluminum welds.

Why in God's name did your Father in law do this?

Being as polite as I can be, this is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Please don't let him near the boat in the future.

our department has all Zodiac rubber boats----black rubber. SIMPLE GREEN with a scruge sponge--they are the scrubber sponges with the green pad on one side. Then simply rinse. If you have aluminum pontoons---this might work also. Simple green comes in commercial spray bottles---all natural---and works better than Fantastic.. NEVER use any chemicals on rubber or painted aluminum. As you did not say what you are trying to scrub off--algae is easy to remove with simple green. It removes mold and fungus as well as dirt. It will be work--but worth your time--and safer. Good to hear from you---did you get your name tag?? ANY base uniform shop makes them---I talked to 2 pilots and they got them on base--with their uniform order--the shops can make them on any base.
