I have a 20' Lowe pontoon boat with a 70hp 2 stroke Mercury engine. Will anything increase my top speed?
It is true that production pontoon boats were not made for speed (I am sure you know that already...) However, you might be surprise to know that the World Speed Record of 81mph (see below) was recently broken.
Short of a major overhaul, new engine, etc. The very best thing you can do is install trim tabs and "check your prop". You don't want a "BIGGER" as suggested, but you do need an undamaged one the proper size. Just "a bigger prop" could actually slow you down.
Props are primarily designed on two opposite ends of the spectrum... one for speed, and the other for thrust... What generally comes standard on a pontoon, is one where the angle of pitch meets somewhere in the middle - and thus gives you a good amount of thrust to get you moving, and then keeps you moving at a steady clip. Thus, if you want maximum speed, and are willing to give up a few extra seconds "getting out of the hole" at start up... then a "speed prop" will take you across the water faster - but getting to top speed will take a bit longer. It is simply a trade off, but, in the case of pontoons, the manufacturer are not concerned with "top" speed - just a good speed.
So, I suggest you see your mechanic about a speed prop.
And, by the way... Pontoon boats are the safest boats on the water... enjoy it!
Happy & Safe Boating,
John

The 2011 model years marks Manitou's 25th year of business. To celebrate this milestone Manitou is offering the finest boat in the pontoon ...
looking at buying a 21ft suntracker with a 90hp Force outboard, prop is in perfect condition - I do not know the pitch of the prop.
This should actually move pretty quick. My brother-in-law has a pontoon boat about that size with a 70hp on it and it does about 20 to 25mph.
With the 90hp I suspect you could ALMOST reach 30 depending upon conditions and prop pitch. In any case you should be able to pull a 'small' skier (100lbs or so).
Hope this answers the question.

my neighbour tried the owl but it did not work...they are getting smarter! he he!
Forget the fake critters... the gulls are smarter than that. The only things I've seen work are "gull sweeps". They are long thin pieces of wire with little airfoils on the end. They stick onto hard surfaces with suction cups and rotate slowly in the slightest breeze. Stringing monofilament back and forth as someone else mentioned will work as well. For a fun solution, there is a Rain-Bird sprinkler that is matched up with a motion sensor. Hook to a water hose, and if anything comes into sensor range, it sprays them! Works, and fun to watch as well.

Boat Maintenance And The Basics Of Boating At A Quick Glance ...
A boat is a small vessel for traveling on water. There are different ways to power a boat, which can range from oars to boat motors, but in any case they would need a hull or maybe a few to keep them floating on the water.
The front of a boat is called the bow or prow and the rear of the boat is called the stern. The right side is starboard and the left side is port. The boat toilet is called the ‘heads’.
A houseboat, as the name implies, is a boat you can live in – a barge would also have a housing compartment. Pontoon boats serve as support for bridges, with their flat bottoms that can also be used as a dock. They are also known as party boats. Sponsons attach to the boat’s flat bottom – these are round tubes that make up the foundation of the pontoon boat. A safety railing would surround the deck and provide protection to everyone aboard. The helm station can be found in either one of these places – in the deck’s middle portion or isolated on one of the sides. The best-looking pontoon boats come with lawn furniture, and even the whole works – a dinette set, upholstered couches, a cooler, a roof, and maybe even a head.
