Does anyone know a link or have plans to build your own mini pontoon boat?

I've looked around online a little and havent come up with much. Im lookin to build my own boat to fish from mostly something in the 12'-14' range. Plus it would just be cool to say "hey i built that". Many thanks for any help. Oh and also free plans are even better.

No, you won't find much online. Free plans are a waste of time, I'm afraid, they're often incomplete. Your best bet is to buy some design software and draw up your plans yourself. It's much easier than you think and it would be better to be able to say "hey I DESIGNED and built that!" The software I use is under $40 and it's superb. I've put a link below to where I got mine from.

how do you make a simple small lightweight pontoon boat? any plans?

Iv'e been thinking along these lines too as a cheap way of getting onto the water. A solution that comes to mind is to buy two fibreglass canoes to use as the pontoons (you can get these cheaply second hand), and use a wood or metal frame to join the two canoes together (with a space between them of say 0,6m) and on top of which you can fit a base and seats etc. But I'm only at the concept stage and have no plans. Good luck.
(I refer obviously to the closed type of canoe, or kayak, not the open touring type which of course could fill with water and sink....)

building pontoon boat?

ive built homemade boats before so im good with tools, but ive never made a pontoon boat, i plan on building a small one man fishing boat, what materials could i use for the pontoons?, i do have some 55 gallon drums i was thinking of using, but what could i do to make them more hydrodynamic

You'll want to add domed or conical end pieces to the leading edges of the first two barrels. You could probably get a sheet metal shop with a rolling machine to fab up conical ends. Be careful if you are considering welding the drums and verify that there are no explosive fumes in the drums. Four drums, the minimum I would consider, is 1600+ pounds of displacement.

Any ideas on how to convert a 16' catamaran to a pontoon boat?

It wouldn't have to be anything fancy just something to putt around the lake with. The hulls are fiberglass and they are in very good shape. I think that this would be possible so if anyone knows how to do this or where I could look for plans, I would like to hear from you. Thanks!
Hey Jabetz 12, that's a great web site. Thanks!

David, any suggestions on how to power and steer it after we get the deck on? Rowing is not an option unless it is a real emergency.

Will my 20ft pontoon boat be ok in a wet slip at the lake all winter?

I live in Texas, and the slip my boat is in is on Lake Tawakoni. I plan on changing my lower unit oil and grease, and more than likely getting a tune up done. If it will be fine in the water over the winter should I trim the motor all the way up or down? I have a 50 hp Nissan outboard motor.

If the lake never freezes you shouldn't have a problem. If the lake freezes you could still leave the boat in, but you'd need a bubbler system that will prevent the ice from crushing the hull. As far as storing the engine you want to store it in the down position if your counting on the hydraulics to hold it up out of the water. Using the hydraulics all winter is likely to damage the seals around the piston, and could cause premature failure. This is true on a trailer as well. If you can find a way of raising the engine and then using a wooden block or a pin on the engine to support the weight of the engine. You could then remove the pressure from the hydraulic system and store the engine in the up position just fine. You just might want to apply a little extra grease to the exposed section of the piston that's left exposed.

  • Why You Need Pontoon Boat Plans

Before constructing a pontoon boat, you will need fantastic pontoon boat plans that you can choose from. This watercraft is quite popular because of simple styles and flat bottom feature. This gives the opportunity for do-it-yourself people to build their own vessels easily without the need of having to spend too very much of their personal funds. Once selecting a blueprint, consider the complexity of the layout, the total expense, the supplies used, and the level of skill necessary to build a boat. Remember that whatever plan you take on to accomplish, it truly is very important to pay interest to the appropriate development procedures to assure that the finished product is sturdy enough to...
