Does anyone know of a way to hook white lights around a pontoon boat that runs off a 12 volt battery?

I currently am using a green neon, 4' long light that floats straight down in the water for night crappie fishing. It doesn't work as well as white lights. I do have a couple of floating lights bought from Wal-Mart. What I would like is some way to attach or be attachable upon reaching the fishing area white lights around the boat that will be able to run off 12 volt batteries, i.e. car battery or marine battery. Does anyone currently have such a system or have any ideas?

hello!

what I've done with my lights (I use one green submergible and one white floating white spot -- have never really done any good at night, but I haven't given up yet), is to get a couple of those 12V accessory plug-in (cigarette lighter plugs), find 'em at walmart in the RV accessory section.

replace the clamps on the lights with 'em.

While you're in the RV section, pick up a couple of accessory sockets.

next, go over to automotive electrical and get you some 14-gauge automotive copper strand primary wiring, some crimp-on ring terminals, and a couple of toggle switches. Also a couple in-line fuse holders and some 2-amp fuses.

assembly is pretty straight-forward -- ring terminals on wire for the battery pos and one for battery neg. Wire from battery pos (add fuse holder close to the battery), to switch, to socket, then back to battery neg.

install the sockets & switches on your helm, or any convenient place on the boat.

if the lights are installed permanently, you can just omit the sockets & plugs and wire the lights directly to the switches.

But please don't leave out the fuses.

How big of a pontoon boat can my 04 nissan 4 cyl tow?

I want to buy a pontoon boat ,but dont know what size I can get with my small truck. I want to get at least a 20 foot. I heard that they are light , can my truck tow this?
I also own a 6 cyl mercury mini van, will this pull it better?

Sure, why not? I have a 18 foot kayot that I use as a rental pontoon and I would tow it all around with my old 4 cyl. Trooper.

I have to admit I am a little surprised by the first answer you got. Pontoons are relatively light, and your little truck should have more than a 2000 lb. towing capacity. Check your tow weight, and compare that to a new 'toon.

How do I paint the aluminum on the side railings of a pontoon boat?

I have a 24 foot pontoon boat. It is a 1988 Weere's brand. The aluminum on the railings are already painted a light tan and brown, and I would like to update the color some. The aluminum has a pitted look, not smooth to the touch, so I don't know about the sanding part. Any info would be great. Where do I start? Thanks.

you will have to sand then primer it

Would an early model ford f150 be good for pulling a boat?

I have a 20 ft pontoon boat and my small SUV has a hard time pulling it. The boat is light enough but it acts like a big parachute. I seem to be able to find many old f150s (1980-1989) out there but I am not sure if they will do the job.

should be able to with out much problem. The old F150s had good horsepower and the weight of the boat on the tongue shoould be enough to hold the back end down. just make sure you remove or lower any awning type top from the pontoon as the air could catch and lift the boat.

How much lighter are evinrude etek boat motors than honda boat motors?

My pontoon is a late 90's model and i put a used 50hp Johnson on it but got scammed so i'm going for a new engine. What HP motor should i get in an etek without weighing down the back of a pontoon boat to bad? And are these engines lighter than honda engines?

a 40hp Etec is heavier that a 40hp honda

here is an excellent forum discussion regarding comparison of a 40hp Etec with a 40hp honda

from the site it actually shows that the Etec is 35lbs heavier.

"When checking out any of the motors forget the competition just check out the performance reports on boats similar to yours.I think you will find the Etec 40 has a better hole shot, fewer less complicated service intervals.I believe no service required for 300 hrs or 3 years, also no breakin required.also an excellent warranty.Etec is heavier 240 to 205 "

  • Fun Sailing A Sunfish

    |

    ]]>

Some people in the know claim the sunfish sail boat is the most popular sail boat ever produced. It is true it has a large following among the wet and wild and even younger crowd. In fact, it owes its very existence to two high school buddies more interested in paddle boards than sail boats. It began in the 1950s as a paddle board to help save lives, had a sail stuck to the surface board and became the beginnings of what we now know as the sunfish sail boat. Changes took place when the paddle board became a sail boat. The mahogany plywood was replaced with fiberglass and the sails redesigned. Nevertheless, the sunfish sail boat still has that cocky look. It is, after all, a dinghy and a dinghy with much to recommend it. The sunfish sail boat is designed with one person in mind. It can be and is easily sailed by one person. Its weight and length ensure one person can haul, carry and launch without fuss or real muss. Its length -13 ft 9 in (4. 2 m) and weight -130 lb (59 kg) permit easy storage and transporting. The sail arrangement also helps in the process. The lateen sail, attached to the spars, can be easily cached by either rolling the sail up parallel to the spars or wrapping it around the spars. The sunfish sail boat can then be efficiently placed in a luggage rack or on a light trailer and carted to the next race or outing. The Sunfish sail boat is not a carrier or cruiser. It is a racer. It is seen participating in racing events every year, world wide. Yet, it is also a day tripper carrying up to three small people. However, you have to not mind getting a little wet going to and from your destination and, when tacking, learn to duck beneath the boom. This does not mean you have to worry about swamping. The sunfish sail boat with its self bailing cockpit is designed to avoid just that. It also features a few other simple design features that facilitate singlehanded sailing. Two lines are all that are really required to sail the sunfish sail boat: the halyard and the sheet. As for control – there is the tiller. If you wish to race it, there are additional features obtainable to increase speed and agility. Portable, easy to handle alone, simplistic in design, low cost – it is no wonder the Sunfish sail boat is popular, imitated and sits in the American Sailboat Hall of Fame.
