Are these for truly camping on the boat, or are they just a glorified wind/sun shade? Have you ever camped on the water with the above set up? Any downsides? Any help/ guidance is greatly appreciated- Thanks!
If it is a true "camper canvas" package, then yes you can camp on the water with them. A camper canvas (enclosure) package includes a bimini top, with side, front and aft curtains that may or may not have zip-out panels with bug screens in them. Camper canvas packages are awesome and the only way to go if you get stuck in the weather or if you're looking for a weekend outing with the family/friends. They're dry for the most part, and keep the heat in if it gets a little chilly at night. The only real downside is the fact that when they're new, sometimes they don't like to fit all that well (they need to stretch sometimes) and the side curtains will act like a sail if it's windy and you're trying to dock. But all in all, the pros sure do outweigh the cons in this situation. Go for the camper package..it also adds a little resale value to your boat as well.

I am going camping and will rent a boat for the day. There are two kinds of boats that are in my price range. On the web site for the rental place they just list the following, they do not have pictures or detailed descriptions.
One is a Northwoods with 50 or 60 hp and is 22 foot.
The other is a Kayot with with 50 hp and is 28 foot.
Can you figure out if one is a pontoon/patio boat or a runabout/ski boat? Any clues would be helpful.
I'm sure that there must be some contact information on the website. Why not email or call and ask what each of them are? You'd have to get hold of them anyway, if you were going to rent.

I was thinking about taking a large pontoon boat (28-30 footer) and making it such that I could camp on it with my family. It would be great to take my generator with us, but the muffler would be too loud. Would it be possible to retrofit the generator (3500 running watt) to pipe its exhaust down under the water line like boat motors do?
Not a chance. The back pressure on the exhaust will create more heat because the motor has to work harder. If you have a loud generator, leave it at home. Nobody, and I mean nobody wants to hear a motor running all the time and disturbing the quiet. I have a genset onboard two of my boats and they are quiet and don't disturb anyone, even onboard the boat. The biggest problem is the carbon monoxide put out by the engine of the generator. A land based generator does not take into account for that since it's used in a open space away from stuff. On a boat, you have confined spaces and places for the deadly gas to accumulate.

I'm looking for a place in KY where I can take five teenagers camping and boating in July. This place needs to feature cabin camping and a marina with pontoons to rent. We've been to Moutardier, Nolin Lake a couple of times, but would like to expand our horizons.
If you ever have the urge to expand to Tennessee, I have a great place for you. Lakeshore Resort Marina on Watauga Lake has nice cabins, boat rentals and a terrific on-site restaurant. The restaurant is called the Captain's Table.

We have owned a bass boat and we liked it but we wanted a more comfortable ride so we got a bow rider. We always like to take out friends and family and we've outgrown our bow rider..So now were looking for a new boat but can't tell which is best for us. WE want to fit at least 10 poeple and we want some floor space but we also enjoy camping and thought it would be cool if we could sleep on the boat I like the idea of a cuddy but we use our boat on weekends mainly for partying.. What kind should we get??
anything you didn't like about your boat if it was one of these??
A pontoon boat would be your first choice for 10 people. Unless you want a 32 foot deck boat. Or a 40 foot plus cruiser

It all started with an itch to try some new events. I was scanning the Ultrarunning Magazine calendar for interesting races I’ve never run, and bingo! There was one listed on New Year’s weekend, right where my sister Karen lives. About a month earlier, Nikki Seger had e-mailed about this race, urging me to come down and run it. I didn’t particularly love time races but didn’t outright say “no” because I hadn’t seen Nikki in years and didn’t want to pass up a chance to reconnect. The calendar details said it was a 24-hour race (along with two heats of a 12-hour race and two heats of a 6-hour race) around a tiny island (1.234-mile laps) on concrete pavers. Hmm… In any other situation, I wouldn’t have read further, but it would be a great chance to see Karen and share the race with her, and it would be good to see Nikki and Jennifer too. It would also be easy and less rushed than usual on a holiday weekend…
