Pontoon And Deck Boat

I would like to buy my first boat, I have 3 small boys, and I leave by a nice calm lake here in TN.
I can only fit a 20ft boat on my garage.
What is the main difference from a Deck Boat or Pontoon boat, both look similar from the inside, but is it the handle, trailing very different? I appreciate any imput, thanks for your help!!

The Pontoon boat is just that two pontoons and a flat deck usually for a nice slow ride around the lake for Bar B Que's and fishing and swimming. The Deck boat is designed for the same things but with the versatility of a runabout where you can usually pull a tube or skier. Both will be larger boats and may not fit in the area you have. Both are good choices and with the limited Space you may want to consider a nice small run about . It will cost you less and still have versatility. A good open bow is nice or a cuddy if you prefer to have a cabin area to get out of the wind if needed.

We have owned a bass boat and we liked it but we wanted a more comfortable ride so we got a bow rider. We always like to take out friends and family and we've outgrown our bow rider..So now were looking for a new boat but can't tell which is best for us. WE want to fit at least 10 poeple and we want some floor space but we also enjoy camping and thought it would be cool if we could sleep on the boat I like the idea of a cuddy but we use our boat on weekends mainly for partying.. What kind should we get??
anything you didn't like about your boat if it was one of these??

A pontoon boat would be your first choice for 10 people. Unless you want a 32 foot deck boat. Or a 40 foot plus cruiser

My hubby and I have about 20K to spend on a boat - awe have three small boys 2,4,& 6 so we need a boat that does it all - any reccomendations? We want tot ube, ski ect...but relax as well...and I know - I've heard the whole "a boat is a hole in the water to dump your money", but we have the money, the economy presents us with the opportunity to get a great deal and my hubby was raised on the water - so he wants his boys to be too...so any suggestions? Have to agree with your husband, getting out on the water is great for the entire family. As far as a pontoon boat, I am not a big fan, but you might really like that style. But remember when you buy a new boat, as soon as you take delivery you take a hit on its value. You should take a look at what is available used and relatively new. You can get great low hour bargains in this economy and as long as you have the used boat checked over you should be fine. Look on www.yachtworld.com and type in a brand or price you want. Look up the pontoon boat and see what they are going for used.
Boston Whaler, Searay, Pursuit etc are topline boats going for bargain prices.

The deck surface is horizontal and the motor mount needs to be vertical and sturdy. I know not to attach anything to the edge of the plywood, so I need some sort of bracket to do this. Thank you.

Fir this you need a couple of angle brackets as well as some marine grade plywood. The angle brackets will allow the plywood to be attached so that it's vertical. Fasten it with about a dozen stainless steel bolts with lock washers to make sure the nuts don't spin off as well as fender washers to distribute the stress.

We just sold our last one in April because the wooden deck caused the carpet to always be mildewed no matter what we put on it to inhibit it. We had it covered and it was still horrible.We spent most of our time cleaning it.The man that sold it for me said there are other kinds of flooring. Does anyone know about that? thanks

The solution for this is to use synthetic deck material. This is available at home depot or lowes in the lumber department. It looks and functions just like wood, but is made of a high strength plastic composite that is weather and mold and mildew resistant. Than just cover it with marine carpet, Which will have to be replaced every few years no matter what.
