I'm in Western Maryland and I need to sell my Pontoon Boat w/ 70 hp Mercury and trailer.

We currently have a 16 ft tri hull, set up basically for fishing. My hubby wants a pontoon for more room, knowing that he will not be able to get into the back waters that he can get into now. What are some of the pro's and con's you pontoon boat owners have experienced?

You can cook on a Pontoon..pull up to shore anywhere and get on land to fish..you can anchor and fish all the banks....You can sleep on it....park in coves for the drunks to swim safely..etc....

hi im 15 and i have enough money to buy either one and ive always loveddd 65 mustangs i would take one over a ferrari,and i live in tennessee near a lake and want a boat to take girls out in and have partys haha...since im 15 im going for my boating lisence and my drivers lisence so now i should decide which one i should get. please give me your opinion.

Let's see...car...boat...car...boat...hmmm.

Each is going to take your time and attention and some money. The Mustang will need TLC and the boat is going to need care too.

You can use the car year round but the boat has to be winterized.

The boat allows you to get on the water but the car will get you to the water.

Now, think of this too. How are you going to get the pontoon boat to the water? Or launch it at a marina if stored there? Or pay for a wet slip?

And put the thought of partying on the water every weekend out of your mind...especially with alcohol. Still underage for a few years and you sure as he!! don't want to get busted on the water for DUI.

My answer would be to go for the car now and save for getting the boat later.

ADDED NOTE: jtexas, since he's in TN it would be okay for him to have th party barge since he's not in your state of mine!

i want to have a party on a boat with about 8 people. i've already contacted the rental agency i'm using and they do not allow anything to be towed behind the boat (no tubing or water-skiing). now i don't know what we would do the whole day on a boat. any advice is greatly appreciated!

even though it is slow, some people do tube behind a pontoon. definately not ski but tube yes. so thats unfortunate that the rental place wont allow you. spending time out on the lake is meant to be fun and relaxing and time WILL go by very quickly. you could start out by driving around...people like to take turn driving around bc how often can you cruise on a lake. i dont know how old you are but you can have some drinking games. maybe bring some easy board games...taboo or what about truth or dare...that should be interesting out on a lake. of course youre going to anchor the boat somewhere and everyone will jump off and go swimming in the lake for some time. dont forget people will also be hungry and eat. if this is a whole day type of thing..maybe you should chip in the extra money to rent a ski boat..that way you can have more activities..tubing, kneeboarding, skiing.

A word of caution. If you plan to ONLY use the boat as a swim platform and for crusing around, it should do that well.

However, if you intend on needing a boat to do any of the following watersports: (skiing or wakeboarding), a pontoon boat will simply NOT work, especially this model you are seeking to buy is extremely underpowered for that purpose.

Pontoon boats perform horribly when it comes to towable watersports. A good compromise is a deck boat, a regular hulled boat that is slightly larger in size than a regular ski boat of the same length. It also has more passenger capacity than a regular ski boat as well, but about slightly less passenger capacity than a pontoon boat of the same length. Most deck boats also have a reasonably powerful drive system that provides enough HP to get around and tow people on the water well.

At only age 28, I've accumulated a lot of experience regarding what expectations and needs are required for individuals/groups/families when going boating.

Usually what happens is an individual or a family buys a pontoon boat thinking that using it as a swim platform and crusing around is enough. Not enough careful thought and planning goes into the "what I really expect of the boat to do now and in the future."

So, when the kids grow up or you as the parents want to do some fast watersports, you gotta buy a different boat now or buy a powerful 3 seater PWC to go with the pontoon boat.
