credit score needed to finance a new pontoon boat - approx $22,000?
-153177-

I just wanted to know if there are any credit experts out there that may know what kind of credit score is needed to finance a new pontoon boat around 22,-23 thousand range? Another way to word the question is what would be the lowest acceptable scrore?

They will factor more than just score. I've seen credit reports with 750 and at a 90% portion of revolving debt. They will factor the following:
How much available credit do you have and owe? For a boat it should be at maximum 50%. How long have you established credit? Most lenders want to see 3+ years of established credit history. Derogs & Collections are a no brainer, you shouldn't have any. Do you have an open auto loan or mortgage? If you have a Heloc, you better not owe more than 30%. It seems like alot of factors to determine your lending worthiness, but its pretty simple. Try to factor these in before you apply. You don't want to put an inquiry on your credit (each one lowers your credit 3-5 points) when you have no shot of an approval, hopefully you do. Anyhow, just by going on score, it should not be lower than a 715. Good Luck!

What is the best type of steering for a Pontoon boat and why ?
What shall we name her?

I am looking to buy a new pontoon boat but I am not clear on what type of steering is better, hydraulic ? postive response etc ?? whatever makes the boat track straighter and is easier to drive is what I want.. Help ?

Bird, don't make this over complicated. Pontoons boats are steered by turning the engines. They don't have rudders. Most pontoon boats come with the steering set-up ready to hook up to whatever engine you want.

Happy boating!

Dan

What is the reason for a pontoon boat to go under water in the front with only 3 people on board???
Two Masts Docked in the Hudson

Ok last summer we had about 12-14 people on board our new pontoon boat and the front half went under water when we started going in the middle of the lake, Im sure it was b/c of the weight from 14 ppl but when it was just me, mom, & dad why did it start going under??? We were all in the middle of the boat sitting on the couches except my dad that was driving the boat. It is very disturbing being on the boat when it starts going under water. Has anyone else had this type of problem and why?

Your pontoons are no doubt sectioned, allowing water in only certain areas. "thank goodness".

Tap the front sections as compared to the rear and they should sound different if one has water.

Pull it out if you have a trailer and look for a leak.

Lastly, for safety and peace of mind, have your dealer test it.

how much does a new pontoon boat cost?

Check out the February issue of Boating Life Magazine.
Here is a search of pontoon boats at their website:

Of course you can save a ton of money by buying a quality used boat. It is really a buyers market. My neighbor low-balled a dealer last August and saved 1/3 on the price of new.

when out on my new pontoon boat, should I have the prop up or down or half way in between?
House Boat Different Angle

the reason your boat has "trim" (prop up and down) is to make your boat cruise without using so much fuel. When you start, the trim is all the way down. As you start to plane (skip over the water) pull your trim up. The front of your boat will raise and less of your boat will be in the water. The end result of this is that the drag on your boat from the water will be less. Your boat will be faster and more fuel efficent. This answer is based on over 40 years of boating experience.
