Fly fishing from pontoon boat. Fishing Gudenå River in Denmark
I have a Eagle Cuda portable fish finder and I want to mount it on my single man pontoon boat but I am at a loss on how to do it. My pontoon is a fishcat 9 and the seat sits out of the water. I know I need to mount the transducer under the water then I need to figure out how to mount the finder itself where it will not be in the way for casting rowing and kicking. Any of you have any suggestions or pics of similar setups that may help?
OutCast (maker of the Fish Cat float tubes and pontoons) makes a bracket for mounting accessories, such as fish finders.
Here's a link to the accessories section of their website: http://www.outcastboats.com/outcast/prod ucts/accessories.aspx
You might even consider buying a Fishin' Buddy depth finder with a strap that goes around the actual pontoon.

I've seen a lot of these dual-hulled inflatable pontoon boats used in America for fly fishing and i'm interested in getting one for my father's birthday.
They're also know as catarafts i think or as a variation of float tubes. They have two inflatable bladders with a seat suspended between and a bar to rest your feet on and they make great inflatable fishing boats. I can see plenty for sale in the US but none in the UK.
Are there any businesses out there shipping these to the UK?
Hi, if you visit www.pontoonboats.co.uk you will find the boats you are looking for.
We, Highland Ventures Ltd are the sole UK importers of the range of Classic Accessories Pontoon Boats and float tubes and have appointed a number of distributors in Scotland, where you can buy these boats. If you check out the website you will find further details including the addresses of distributors, pictures of the boats in action and all the relevant info you may require. They are very reasonably priced and we are sure your Father will be very appreciative if he receives one for his birthday!

Ok, here are my questions:
How safe are fly fishing pontoons and kayaks?
Which is safer?
What are the best brands?
What would you recemend?
I will be fishing in lakes and very slow moving streams.
In my opinion, the pontoons are slightly more comfortable to fish out of than a kayak, BUT, a well-made pontoon is harder to transport than a kayak; a pontoon really needs calm water to function properly, and a pontoon is harder to paddle than a kayak.
Pontoons are great for small ponds and VERY (very) slow moving creeks/rivers. Pontoons are also very "wet" and could only be used in Northern waters, (unless you like being mighty "close" to aquatic critters such as Mr. Gator, Mr. Snake, & Mr. Snappin' Turtle....lol).
Bottom line?- You can use a Kayak in more "watersport situations" than a fly-fishing pontoon and if I could only own 1, I would choose
a kayak.
Hope this helps? Good luck.
what kind of fly line would you use when fishing from a float tube or pontoon boat in a lake?
There are two considerations. The first is the line weight. You need to match this up with whatever weight rod you have. It should say on the rod. There are times you would deviate from this, but to keep it simple match the line weight to the rod.
The second consideration of the line type has to do with what type of fishing you will be doing. If the fish are feeding on the surface you would go with a floating line which are also the easiest to cast. Full sinking lines will get your fly down deep if that's where the fish are but these are the toughest to cast. Intermediate or sinking tip fly lines are a decent compromise. If you were using a leech or woolybugger pattern, some sort of sinking line would be best. If you are just starting out I would go with the floating line since its easiest to cast and you can still get some depth just with the leader.
If you have a fly shop or decent sporting goods store nearby, they should have good advice for your particular area. Good luck and tight lines!

Fly fishing basics, equipment that will help you catch more ...
Far too many fishermen are missing an important aspect of the sport they most enjoy. Most are happy to lump along the bank and catch whatever fish that may be spending time near the shore. The top level of success, however, is achieved by using fly fishing pontoon boats. Any boat or kyack will do but the fish cat and or pontoon is a good alternative..
What are they?
The most simple definition is an inflatable katarafts that have a deck mounted on them which allow people to cast from them. They are made most commonly of rubber flotation devices, called floats, and supported by an aluminum, or other metal, deck. The two components are attached by straps and add rigidity to the entire craft.
