9 Pontoon Boat

I was recently on a pontoon boat with a 9.9 HP motor and it went slow but it did pull it...I just want to know how large of a boat I can buy that a 9.9 HP engine could pull.

ASSUMING WIND AND CURRENT ARE NOT A FACTOR, you can get a surprisingly large boat moved with 9.9 hp....the question is how fast and do you really want that motor running at full throttle all the time? If there is any wind/current, different question.

I fish on open waters where you see boats in the 24 ft range using 10 hp's as "kicker" motors (trolling motors).

I personally wouldn't want to think about running a 20 ft or larger potoon with a motor that small....for many reasons.

If you are talking about a small fishing boat.....as a previous poster mentioned, 9.9 will move a little 16 foot aluminum boat quite nicely.

P.S. An outboard motor, as with almost all boat motor/drive sytems (with a few exceptions) "PUSHES" a boat, not "pulls" it...:)

I have built a 3 hull 8 man pontoon boat. It is 13' x 8'. It has three hull's and a wood framed platform 10' x 8'. There is a tiki hut framed canopy covering the platform with 3' high bamboo siding around the perimeter. There is wood framed benches running along the back and both sides. I have framed a 2" x 6" motor mount along the back of the hull's. I'm thinking of getting a 8 to 9.9 hp outboard motor for it. I have not the slightest clue how I'm going to steer this boat. There is a 3' low wall that runs along the back of the boat and the out board motor will mount about 2'-6" behind the captains seat. How can I connect a steering system or connect an extension to the throtle where I can steer the boat? Please help?

get yourself some PTO cables, secure em to the motor bracket, you can use a steering wheel but youll only be turning like 130 degrees total so a lever would do just as well.

some people preffer a strait mechanical linkage, like steering on a truck, but for a little pontoon that wasnt built to have remote steering, it would be more cost effective to use PTO cables.

i wish i could post a drawing i just made... it makes perfect sense when you 'see' it.

I have a pontoon boat that I am looking for a spare prop for. It needs to be in the 9 to14 degree pitch with an 11 spline hub. I can't find one on ebay, they are all either 13 spline or 15 spline. Any idea's? I am going on vacation in a couple weeks and need a spare to take with me since last time out I broke one.

Go to a dealer of whatever brand engine you have, they should be able to get you another. Or you could go to a prop shop and get one.

. it would push it but as we all know, pontoon boats dont plane, so thats irrelevant. if your willing to go maybe 3 knots thats ok but the problem is current and wind which could stop you from going anywhere so it would not be a good idea. absolute minimum 25horse 40 much much better.

I have a Eagle Cuda portable fish finder and I want to mount it on my single man pontoon boat but I am at a loss on how to do it. My pontoon is a fishcat 9 and the seat sits out of the water. I know I need to mount the transducer under the water then I need to figure out how to mount the finder itself where it will not be in the way for casting rowing and kicking. Any of you have any suggestions or pics of similar setups that may help?

OutCast (maker of the Fish Cat float tubes and pontoons) makes a bracket for mounting accessories, such as fish finders.
