18 Pontoon Boat

Would an ordinary waterproof cover be enough or should it be more elaborately contructed for snow/ice runoff?
Suggestions appreciated.

covered storage, tarps or covers wouldn't hold up, even a carport would work if you put a boat cover on the boat

I had always called these suicide trailers, but in fact they do greatly lower the center of gravity. Have to go from SC to FL. Have any experience with these strange trailers? Have a chance to buy boat and trailer but this poses the major question of safety.

Great trailer and doesn't take up near as much space as the Bass Tracker trailer. I traded my 1994 24' bass Tracker trailer where the boat sits on top of the carpeted bunks for one where the bottom of the hull rests on the trailer. It lower to the ground, but easier to launch anywhere. These have the tires that are designed originally for the heavy forklifts and with that short, narrow axle; don't have a problem in tight turn areas. Also, when the boat if off the trailer and at my dock; storage space is only 4' wide X 24" long. The tracker trailer takes up 9' wide X 24 ' long. Much smoother ride on the freeway and not sitting so high up in the air and causing a wind drag. Better deal all the way around. Just remember when entering or exiting gas stations; go easy over the dips and you'll have no problems.

Our driveway is really steep. We want to buy an 18-20 ft. pontoon boat. My question is...how can we determine ahead of time if the boat will go up the driveway,without scraping? Is there a mathematical way to figure this?

Angles of approach and of departure will figure into the equation. Same as for 4-wheel drive enthusiasts.For a trailer rig there are more variables than for a car/truck. It might be better & easier to test drive the rig into your driveway first before buying.

what pontoon boats can hold minimum of 16 to 18 people please give models and manufactures looking to buy one please be specific with make and models and if you could please toss in a price

Grab the latest issue of Boating Life magazine (February 2009), they have a full run down on the latest pontoon boats. They are showing several models 25 feet and above with the kind of capacity you are looking for. The Cypress Cay and the Harris Flote Bote both look good, prices are running $40,000 to $60,000.

IMHO you are going to be looking for a 'toon that is at least 24 feet long.

Our 24 footer is rated for 16 people, but I don't know where you would put them. We only have seats for 12.

. it would push it but as we all know, pontoon boats dont plane, so thats irrelevant. if your willing to go maybe 3 knots thats ok but the problem is current and wind which could stop you from going anywhere so it would not be a good idea. absolute minimum 25horse 40 much much better.
