Can I use an small Inflatable boat in the Thames?
boatshelf

I was thinking about buying an small inflatable boat without any engine and go down the Thames in a sunny day starting in North London. Is that legal? Do I need any special licence? I’ve seen people doing kayaking before, but I don’t know if they’re part of a club or anything. Is there any time window when it’s allowed?

I don't know the thames or London, but from your question if your inflatable has no O.B I reckon you must be suicidal! Get a decent 16/ 18 foot zodiac with at least a 20 H P O B with all the safety gear you need and a life jacket, first, talk to the port authorities get a power boat course with a certificate at the end of the week, see R Y A for courses. I reckon you doing that on the thames would be like taking a row boat across the Dover straights.
In fact the Sea would be safer when you done the course try Island Cruising Club Salcombe learn to SAIL much better. Oh yes can you swim?

How could you board a ship from a life raft, or small inflatable boat?
Family on Dinghy / Evening Cruise3332.4.j

If your on one of those small inflatable boats and you need to board a large naval ship, how would you do it? And the ship is abandoned so nobody would throw down a line or anything. what equipment would you need? Obviously im not a pirate or anything, just curious.

Ships have something called as gangways on both port and starboard side. These are basically aluminium ladders and can be lowered or hoisted via a pneumatic motor. Also ships have pilot ladders which can be used to board only if you dont have luggage.

In case the ship is abandoned or you are a pirate then you need a claw hook which gets entangled on rails, pipes etcand yo climb up on the ship via rope. Somalian pirates board the ships in this way.

Legal to take out small inflatable boat into the bay?
High-Fibre Rapids

I have an inflatable boat similiar to this one
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/ SportsRec/Marine/Boats/PRD~0798222P/Two- Person%2BInflatable%2BBoat.jsp
I was wondering if it is legal to take it out like into a lake/bay. It does not have an engine, but I would use paddles. Just wondering if it is legal or not?

It would be legal ... and not too safe. Stupidity is not illegal. That vinyl boat is meant for a swimming pool or VERY close inshore drifting or paddling about where you can walk or swim back to the side or shore. Should you choose to go offshore, be sure to wear a life jacket. I wouldn't want to read about you in the obituaries the next morning.

I have a small inflatable boat. I'm thinking of setting up a ferry service in the Lake district?
Transport Task IPG. Small Is Good

I was thinking of setting up a ferry service where the bridges are down. Free of charge as I don't like to profit from others misfortune.

The ferry would shuttle people and small amounts of goods from one side of the rivers to the other.

Is this a good idea?

(Alternatively maybe a big swing attached to a crane with lines to either bank could be used.)

(actually I can't do this becuase I am currently ill unfortunately)

Gosh you do talk rubbish.
To tell you the truth I wouldnt' go near your inflatable dingy. Get a proper boat.

I have a small inflatable boat 7'6'', rated for a 4hp motor, i want to put a 6hp?

I know on bigger boats the difference in weight is the bigger issue rather than hp. So my question is is the 10 pound difference going to affect the transom in a serious enough way to advise against it ?

The difference is more than 10 LBS 1 has a fixed gas tank the 6 should have a remote tank torque is a lot more with the 6hp. It might work??

  • Knowledge About Safety for All Boats Including Inflatable Boats ...

It is so much fun to get out on the water in any kind of boat whether a small inflatable boat or a large yacht. But it is equally important that you are aware of and follow the safety rules. This is especially important if you are the skipper or owner of the boat because you are ultimately responsible for the safety of all your passengers.

Many government regulations include the possessing of a pleasure boat operator’s license for any person that operates a boat from the smallest inflatables or dinghies. Not only is this the law in many countries, but it only makes sense. After investing large sums of money on your boat, a smart boater would want to look after his/her investment as well as the lives of friends and family. If you have not taken a boat safety course it would be advisable to do so.
