Intex 2

Hi guys, I have an Intex "Easy Set" pool that my kids have absolutely LOVED for the 6 years or so that we've had it. The pool itself is fine, but the 2" plastic hose that that runs from the motor to the filter of the pump has cracked. I've looked absolutely EVERYwhere and cannot find one -- not one hardware store, pool supply store, etc, in my area has this size hose. The company discontinued this model several years ago and are now using smaller diameter hoses -- evidently they have no adapters which will accomodate the old ones (how convenient!). In the meantime, this leaves me in a real lurch and time is running out before my pool starts collecting algae. My husband just found out his job is being eliminated, and this is not a good time to buy a whole new pool, not to mention that I HATE throwing things away for stupid minor reasons like a $4 hose -- we have enough garbage in the landfills as it is!(lol) Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this or get a new hose?

You might try a shop vacuum cleaner hose to see how close to the the size you need. A plumbing supply house may be able to help you also. Lowe's or Home Depot may have some flexible hose you could use. It doesn't have to be corrugated, just flexible.

Intex pool vynol 16x4 holds 1500 gallons of water. It has a pool floater that holds a cube of chlorine 24/7. We have tried shocking the pool..nothing. It has alage that just will not go away, we cannot swim in it. To test the pool we are using "Smart Test 4 way combo", made by Pool shop. The results are CL 1(3) Alk 80 pH 7.2. We go to the pool store they want to sell us $200 worth of pool stuff. Someone please help us!! Thank you so very much!

pH and TA are ok although the TA is in the low acceptable range. You gave two different readings for your CL though. If it indeed 0..that's an issue. The one thing you probably have never done nor had checked is your stabilizer levels. That could very well explain not having a chlorine reading even though you put some in. Stabilizer ( cyanuric acid) helps stabilize chlorine against ultra violet loss. If it's not in range...your chlorine gets zapped by the sun fairly quickly before it has a chance to sanitize the pool. You should also be using a combination of both shock and algacide to deal with your algae problem to boot. Don't go for the cheaper copper based algacides. Buy what's called a poly quat. More expensive but you'll need less and it'll do a better job than a copper based one. As for shock, you can use liquid chlorine (it's cheapest and relatively fast acting) but when you use it as a shock, do it at dusk or at night. You'll get more bang for your buck since liquid chlorine really gets hammered by sunlight and shocking when the sun's about to set or past sunset lets the chlorine go right to work exclusively on the little nasties instead of it getting knocked down by UV light. Just be prepared for a little jump in your pH is all. Liquid Cl has a high inherent pH and it will raise your pool's pH a bit. Alternatively you can buy simple HTH (granular chlorine shock) but it's a little more expensive and ought to be pre mixed in a bucket if you're using it in such a small volume as an above ground pool.
As for the pool shop wanting to sell you 200 bucks worth of chems...it may actually come to about half that when all is said and done depending on what you currently have in your chemical inventory. Also..you ought to at least be using a floating chlorine puck dispenser with stabilized chlorine pucks or tabs. Fill it up and crank the dispersion setting.

We have a very small backyard and it's not level. We tried putting down a platform of washed sand, set up the Intex pool, and as soon as it was almost full it started leaking over 2 of the edges. We had to drain it. So what should I use as a base? Would stone dust be better? Or should I just tear up the yard and level it off manually using the existing soil? Also, how do I "tamp it down"?

I have an Intex aboveground pool. The pool often have algae even though i used pool chorine often. but i don't want 2 change the water every so often because of the water shortage. Is there a solution?
