Can I use an small Inflatable boat in the Thames?

I was thinking about buying an small inflatable boat without any engine and go down the Thames in a sunny day starting in North London. Is that legal? Do I need any special licence? I’ve seen people doing kayaking before, but I don’t know if they’re part of a club or anything. Is there any time window when it’s allowed?

I don't know the thames or London, but from your question if your inflatable has no O.B I reckon you must be suicidal! Get a decent 16/ 18 foot zodiac with at least a 20 H P O B with all the safety gear you need and a life jacket, first, talk to the port authorities get a power boat course with a certificate at the end of the week, see R Y A for courses. I reckon you doing that on the thames would be like taking a row boat across the Dover straights.
In fact the Sea would be safer when you done the course try Island Cruising Club Salcombe learn to SAIL much better. Oh yes can you swim?

Is the gauge number and weight capacity of an inflatable boat related?

Why are some smaller boats able to hold more weight than bigger boats? Does the gauge number play a part in this?

And has anyone used the Bestway Voyager 500? How is it?

the capacity plate is generally just trying to keep you from overloading your vessel so 1 person equals 150 lbs or is equal to that in gear so you don't want to exceed the capacity plates. The buoyancy of a vessel depends on surface area and wight of the boat itself.

FishFinder on Inflatable Boat - Installing?

I would like to install a FishFInder on an inflatable boat like a Zodiac boat.

What can I use to fix the radar part on the boat. The part that is in the water? Can i use some kind of tape or glue?

I can't drill a hole into the rubber since its an inflatable boat.

Thanks much
Yan

Just want to elaborate on the "suction cup" conversation.....

What you want is a "portable" fish finder.

Almost every company has a portable version of their regular line of FF's.

I have a portable and it has a suction cup transducer and occasionally it will lose suction and fall off. So, I actually made, (out of PVC pipe), a "transducer holder" that attaches to the side of my kayak or canoe. All you need is a clamp, some nuts & bolts, and some PVC piping!

If you don't even want to fool with making something www. cabelas.com has one that you can purchase starting at $20. Check their marine section.........

Hope this helps ya? Good luck!

Thumbs to FS and Hog!

how to use an air compressor to inflate a boat?

i have a 8'6'' inflatable boat that is built and is basically the same thing as a zodiac. i need to inflate it to 13 psi and have broken it's included foot pump and am struggling with a hand pump that is about to break. i dont like the idea too much but how do you guys use air compressors to inflate a boat (if with halkey-roberts valves, even better)? also what things or parts specifically do you have. try to explain it to someone who doesn't know what to use.

I just use a normal workshop compressor with an air duster nozzle, and use some duct or silver tape to make a bit of a seal on the end of the foot pump hose. Connect the hose to the valve, stick the nozzle in the other end and blow the thing up. Don't overdo it of course but it really is quick and simple.

I need technical help with my inflatable boat?

I have recently acquired a second hand Aquapro SLR inflatable (2 meters from transom to outside the bow) and want to use it in the estuaries to fish and get mud crabs. It has no engine and I would appreciate it if you could advise me on what type of electric motor I should use and size.
Also, due to the size, I believe there is now a flat gel type battery similar to a petrol "bag".
As I am a pensioner I would prefer second hand if you do have something, or if that's not the way to go, then what petrol engine would be best?

I am also looking for used/new Aquapro parts:
3 x hand grips
1 x complete housing for the oar
1 x " oar strap
2 x oars
Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Guide to Buying Inflatable Boats

As many people are already aware, inflatable boats are becoming very popular today. Inflatable boats come in several distinct groups designed for specific uses and are therefore equipped with different components and equipment.

When shopping for a small boat to ferry people and stores from the ship to the shore, a typical inflatable boat is the often the best answer. If a medium sized boat for diving or swimming is what’s needed there are many inflatable boats designed to serve in that area as well. For recreation or rescue work, there are large inflatable boats available that perform admirably.

    Dealer Locations

Since travelling a great distance simply to buy an inflatable boat is undesirable, the location of a reputable dealer is very important. Whether parts, repairs, or just technical support is needed, a close dealer will be a great asset. New boat own+K47er may have questions, need to file a claim on the warranty, or just have regular servicing done. Regardless of how it’s viewed, a close dealer is always better than having to travel.
