Do I required to have insurance and any crucial things for non-motored boats?

I live in Ohio around the Cleveland area (Lake County), i go fishing a lot and am hoping to get a simple row/paddle or air-pumped boat. However, being a beginner who apparently got a license years ago and possible forgot everything now, but I do know the basic safeties, I do not know ANYTHING about getting a boat. Such as in this case, I don't know if I must be required for insurance and possibly anything else. But keep this in mind, I only need a small simple boat enough for 2-3 people for FISHING to paddle around the small creeks and rivers, not anything like Lake Erie. So PLEASE help me asap and ALSO any recommendations on boats. My range is around $200.

Unless you are a not-for-profit all non powered must be registered.
For 200 bucks your best luck is probably a "Pelican" boat.

Sevylor Inflatables have been around for awhile and have heard their a pretty good investment. One thing that you'll definitely need are the motor mounts for their electric troller (link). Have a 11 1/2' Seahawk 400 by Intex that we use on small ponds where the Jon boat won't get into and have the these type mounts with a Motor Guide elctric troller on them. One thing that I noticed w/ the Sevlor, it has wooden floors (beneficial for castin') which the Intex does not. Hopefully soon I'll be fabricatin' my own, when time permits. One other thing I suggest whole-heartdly is oar(s)! For the power pack I use an Optima Blue Top battery (12v Marine type) which I prefer because of it dependability, size and weight (link). There costly little boogers but, worth every penny. As for somethin' ta' get the air in the chambers I go with a Coleman air compressor/pump (link). That one of ours can be quite a task gettin' inflatated even with a manual double action type pump... Only thing else I can add is, be gentle with them hooks when fishin' ;)... < ' ( (( > <

Note: When I'm out in the inflatable bustin' the ponds I make it a point ta' bring some good ol' "Oakie fixem' upper" Duct Tape ~ just in case of me gettin' a little wild with them hooks ;) ;)... Also these price$ on the above items, one can find a little bit more reasonable with some shoppin' around ~ I just picked them on the Internet at random...

what should a dock-master's wages be?

I work on a lake for a summer job as a Dock-Master, and wonder what my wages should be since I do so much work. To start off the lake is about 5 miles long, but is along the seneca river in NY. It's not a huge marina it has about 75 slips, has a launch as well as a gas pump dock. So here it goes, I launch boats, rent row boats, motor boats, 1 small pontoon boat, paddle boats, and canoes. I sell worms, I pump propane, rent seasonal slips as well as transient slips. I pump gas, I take all questions, I'm basically a one man army. I train people that are new to boating, I give tips on how to put the boat on the trailer. I put in boats anddd help pull them out. I even bring jumper cables with me and have helped to jump a good amount of boats. I've avoided many possible mishaps like boats that would have put their boat in without a plug, never put the trim up, etc. Im very helpful, people have told me they come to my marina bc they know they will be helped out, and I do a really great job. Btw I just got a raise of $.50, I now make $8.50.
yeah you're telling me. I only work weekends, thats when its more busy..... I put in 12-14hrs usually each day.

Depends on how much work U do and Seem U have quite a lot of responsible for such low pay.As if something happens it's your butt.

what would cause my boat to take on water?

I have a 18 foot cuddy, with a mercruiser 470, and it run fine for about a alf hour, and then i idled it down, and put it in reverse and it died. we paddled it back to te dock and got it out of te water and onto the trailer and we removed the bottom plug and tere was a steady stream of water, like a garden hose for like a few mins. the was no coolent in the water at all, i am aware that these engines do leak coolent, but the cooling system is new. and im talking like gallons of water. and i cant see ware its coming from, is it being pumped in througt the engine?, or is it maybe coming in through from ware the lower drive mounts to the boat?, the transom right? so any ideas thanks, oh and there was no water in the boat befor we started, so please help

as have owned a boat it is normal for your boat to have some water in the haul this is do to small leaks (this is why you have a sub pump to suck water out wile driving)if it is a lot of water you need to pull the boat out and before removing the plug look for leaks baylinner's are know ed for easy to crack hauls.next time you buy a boat and do your self a favor and buy a out board as inboard/outboards are a pain to do anything with, out board motors are cheaper and easier to replace

  • THE THREE TYPES OF KAYAKING | Global News Online

Whitewater kayaking is done in a river and requires a sleek, short, and high performance kayak. River kayaks are the sports cars of the kayak family. They turn on a dime, accelerate fast, and can be manoeuvred around obstacles in the river quickly. They are outfitted with internal framing called pillars and are predominately made of high-density plastic that can take a pounding. A river kayak however, would not make a good coastal kayak because their short length makes them slow when paddling long distance.

Recreational kayaks are very stable. They tend to have very flat bottoms, big cockpits, and are relatively short, in the 9′-15′ range. They are fun to paddle in relatively small bodies of water like lakes, bays, inlets, and ponds. They are the least expensive of all kayaks. When paddling long distance these kayaks have trouble keeping up. One main reason is shorter length kayaks tend to wander back and forth as they are paddled. This significantly reduces their efficiency and makes for harder paddling.
