2 Person Raft

I live in Central Wisconsin and have recently wanted to start whitewater rafting. I am looking for any suggestions on a specific raft that will seat 2 people comfortably (it looks like I would need a 4 person raft for that). It obviously needs to be somewhat durable. I am looking for something with a decent price as well though. Are there any good sites or resources out there with good information on rafts?? I am also wondering where I can find information on where might be some good places to go locally with my own raft? Thanks in advance!!!!

Youll pay for durability but in the long run, youll be glad that you did. I live in Idaho and the two brands that I see the most are Puma and NRS. Im a kayaker but most of my friends raft. You can probably find a good used one starting around 800 but it would last a lifetime if taken care of.

What class do they run in WI? If your running 3-4, I wouldnt skimp
on quality. Ebay will probably be your best bet.

I am going whitewater rafting w/a group of friends. It's going to be level 3. Is it safer to go on a 2 man raft or 4 man raft?

Whitewater rafting at level 3 in a 2 person raft is not safe unless both people are experienced rafters or canoeists. Whitewater rafting at level 3 in a 4 person raft is not safe unless at least 2 of the people are experienced rafters or canoists. If you are inexperienced, make sure you are to be in the 4 person raft and that two or more of the others are experienced. Otherwise, you are going into danger. Not that the danger is high, but it is there. Make sure whatever you do that you have a well-fitting life vest.

If everyone on the trip is inexperienced, the safe method is to sign up with a commercial rating operation. They know the river, their rafts are big and stable and their people are experts.

Here are the ratings:
Class 1: Very small rough areas, requires no maneuvering. (Skill Level: None)
Class 2: Some rough water, maybe some rocks, small drops, might require maneuvering. (Skill Level: Basic Paddling Skill)
Class 3: Whitewater, medium waves, maybe a 3-5 ft drop, but not much considerable danger. May require significant maneuvering. (Skill Level: Experienced paddling skills)
Class 4: Whitewater, large waves, rocks, maybe a considerable drop, sharp maneuvers may be needed. (Skill Level: Whitewater Experience)
Class 5: Whitewater, large waves, large rocks and hazards, maybe a large drop, precise maneuvering (Skill Level: Advanced Whitewater Experience)
Class 6: Whitewater, typically with huge waves, huge rocks and hazards, huge drops, but sometimes labeled thusly due to largely invisible dangers (i.e., a smooth slide that creates a near-perfect, almost inescapable, hydraulic, as at Woodall Shoals/Chattooga). Class 6 rapids are considered hazardous even for expert paddlers using state-of-the-art equipment, and come with the warning "danger to life or limb." (Skill Level: Expert)

Volume of change in displaced water = 2 square meters x rise in raft, meters.
Removal of 70 kg person = weight of the change in displaced water.
Using the weight of water (kg per cubic meter...find in standard reference book), solve for raft rise...........if desired, convert rise to centimeters, etc.

You can make 3 round trips in 20 minutes. But you can only save 4
people at a time as one person has to be the driver, therefore 12
people plus the driver survive, so the answer is 13.

2nd riddle--3 candles

Two people are standing on a 2.0 m-long platform, one at each end. The platform floats parallel to the groun on a cushion of air, like a hovercraft...One person throws a 6 kg ball to the other, who catches it. The ball travels nearly horizontally. Excluding the ball, the total mass of the platform and people is 118 kg..Because of the throw, this 118kg mass recoils. How far does it move before coming to rest again? Have to use other methods to solve for this problem, not Center of mass =((

This is more a center of mass problem. No matter how hard/fast the ball is thrown, the change in distance is the same. Find the center of mass of the 2 m long platform before ball is thrown. Then find the center of mass after the ball is caught. Compare the center of mass distances from each other and you have how far the platform will move.
