could one person sail a small cabin boat alone?

would it be safe and easy or hard not a dingy a small cabin boat

It is a yes but obviously it limits you a little. It would be unwise to sail through the night in a crowded sea as you won't get any sleep and it can be a bit tricky coming onto a mooring in a heavy sea or strong wind. My boat is 32 feet and I frequently am on my own and have met single handers on 60 footers! You devise ways of mooring from the stern and providing you don't fall overboard its not unsafe. Carry a portable VHF radio and wear a life jacket.

If you capsize with a small boat (no cabin), what do you do?

what do you do at night...what do you do during the day?

"Rock the boat".

if you are alone then this is difficult, if not impossible at best.
procedure is applicable for both night and day:
position yourself on one side of the boatd-mid/center.
Push down on the side closest to you...let it bounce back up. Continue doing this untilo a rythym is est.
Next up-bounce, instead of pushing down...help the boat up.
Watch your head and remember safety first. you may be able to "bounce" the boat back into the rights.

On a small cabin boat, in a storm...?

What would you have to do?
I mean, any specific things that'd have to be done?

Sorry, being pretty vague, but I honestly know nothing >.<

Help appreciated! :)
I needed the information for a scene in a book I'm writing.. I wouldn't plan on it otherwise :)

Sail or Power?

For sail or power, get behind any protection you can and anchor or even anchor in shallow enough water, letting out as much rode as you have.

Sailboat - heave to

Any boat with power, - power into the waves a bit off slow, but enough power to get up the waves.

If you have enough sea room - go with the waves and wind, trying not to let yourself get turned sidways. You may even end up briefly surfing many of the waves. May use a self steering device such as an autopilot or windvane steering.

Is it possible to charter a small boat in Mauritius?

Hello everyone, I have a boating permit and was wondering if there is a company in Mauritius where you can rent a boat (with cabin) for a few days (just to cruise around the lagoon, go snorkelling, and so on). Looking for small boat with a cabin and cooking facilities, not a luxury yacht with a crew. Budget 800 euros max.

dont know the answer but this site gives you a lot of info and a email address for such queries as yours good luck

Can Narrowboats and small cabin cruisers travel across the big seas?

Hello........I'm very interested in boats. I just want to know if narrowboats (canal boats) and small cabin cruisers can travel over the big seas..... I don't know much about boat building and the underneath shape of boats....All I know is that the boats mentioned above are ideal for UK inland waters (canals and rivers). But, can they travel elsewhere, too? Thanks

Well, they probably CAN, but the question is should they, or would you want to? Boats designed for inland waterways are not designed for travel on the ocean. They are not made to cope well with the waves and swells you could get, nor to ride out a storm at sea. So while you could take one to sea and have no problems if fate and the weather are on your side, it could also be a disaster.

  • What I Wish I Knew Before Boarding the Galapagos Vision | Zufall

Like many backpackers visiting Ecuador on our South America trip, we wanted to get to the Galapagos. The prices are pretty forbidding for the most part, but we’d heard and read in our Lonely Planet that it is sometimes possible to find last minute deals on boats that aren’t quite full.

We found one such deal (online), and the timing was right but we couldn’t help worrying that the price was too good to be true. After reading reviews of the Galapagos Vision online, we decided to proceed but took with us our low expectations. And while the trip itself was fantastic – we saw all we wanted to see and more of the islands and its famous wildlife – there were are few things we wish we’d know before boarding.
