Any reccommendations (make and model) for a half cabin (or even full cabin) boat that is under 28 feet that can be trailed easily? I am looking for something that is more spacious that a cuddy cabin. Thanks
Hope you have a diesel truck. I've pulled my 26' express cruiser from coast to coast. It's a lot of work too. Fully loaded with water and fuel, trailer and boat, it all weighed in at 10,300 pounds. Sea Ray (Sundancer 240) has several nice models and so does Maxum (SCR 2500). You get much bigger, the weight really jumps up and so does everything else involved with trailering the boat. Stay at 8'6" wide, that way you won't be limited to day light trailering for being a wide load (all above 8'6" in width). Many states charge an additional wide load fee for being in excess of 8'6".

ok im in the market for a fiberglass half cabin boat but dont know what to look for in terms of boat structureall saftey i mean do these boats have certain flaws that i need to be aware of? & also safety & reliability. The boat i looked at last in the yard was $3500 and it looked ok but when walking around on the floor it was flexing in the midle and in some parts made a sound like the fiberglass was splitting (when i was pushing down with one foot) other than that the outer hull seemed quite sound any advice would be great thankyou!
ok im in the market for a 4.2 or a 5 metre fiberglass half cabin boat but dont know what to look for in terms of boat structureall saftey i mean do these boats have certain flaws that i need to be aware of? i have heard that they get fibreglass rot? & also safety & reliability. The wood in the decks are rotted out in the boat you describe. They will have to be removed and replaced with marine plywood and re gel coated plus a none slip surf us added. The way I check for rot in the hull is to take a rubber mallet and hit every thing. Transom, bottom, gunnel's, cabin in your case. If it doesn't bounce back and hit you in the forehead, don't buy it. After you rip the decks off, inspect the stringers and condition of the flotation, as it could be waterlogged. The gas tank is another problem if the boat is older than a 89. Don't mean to discourage you, but be care full in your decision. Hope this helps. (Type in "5 meter half cabin boat." I found some interesting literature on the subject of a 4.7meter. A family of three, fishing all the time. Looks like the kids are having fun. They must be safe.)
G,day all, i live near yatala jacobs well area and im thinking of getting a 14ft halfcabin so i can travel from jacobs well to stradbroke island! What im wanting to know is is this a safe kind of boat to do the trip? I dont know a real lot about boats but want to buy something that can do this without to many worries, any advice is appreciated!
P.s If these kind of boats are not up to the task can someone recommend me one that is?
I suppose you could in good conditions but a 14 foot boat isn't very big if conditions get rough. Especially if you have your family with you. If it were me, I'd look for minimum of 18ft. Preferably 21 or more.
hi there, another boat question, what paint should i use to paint my boat and where can i get it? i have a 4 meter half cabin boat made of fiberglass, i have sanded it down and now want to paint it and then apply a gel coat, something that will withstand the suns effects? any help is appreciated. thanks, britney xx
hi there, im wanting to know where to get the products.
you dont use paint at all.
if you've sanded down to a 220 or rougher surface, and completely cleaned it, its ready for the gelcoat.
gelcoat is impossible to get on perfectly smooth. put it on thick and expect to a lot of sanding, ultimatly ending with 1,000 grit and wet sanding. then buff with rubbing compound and wax to bring out the shine.
best way to get anything to last through more sunshine is to cover it and keep it out of the sun.
tarps are fairly cheap, and can be layered as needed or to make them last through mroe sun themselves. just make sure to get a tight tented shape so rain and snow dont stay on it.
keeping trailer tires out of the sun also makes them last longer, unless you go out a LOT, you wont wear trailer tires out before they age too much, cover them and they will last a little longer.
i have a small half cabin boat that im fixing up, i need a pair of bow rails for it, does anyone have any idea where i can buy these from, preferably somewhere i dont have to pay an arm and a leg for them.
thanks

Guide to buying a family boat
Buying a family boat can be a confusing, especially if you do not know much about boats. rapidly due to the wide range of new and used boats available, all with different features and opportunities, and may even in a department is not required when you're not involved careful. This is especially true if you want a boat for the different activities. For example, ski boats are very specific in design, and not much use if you have a lot of people want to cruise, or havego fishing.
