Try the blueprints on the Plans4Boats site. I'm building a sailboat right now with a fantastic custom plan drawn to scale.
I'm almost 70% done, ready to roll in a day or two.
Interview of boat builder Ray Macke about his Glen-L Marine Designs Cabin Skiff.
The boat doesn't weigh more than 2100lbs for sure just figured having a troll motor as a backup just in case my engine goes out would be nice.
Would an 80lb thrust motor do the job? I'm from Florida and fish out in the bay.
Thanks for all the advice
a nice 15 hp gas/ w electric start and linked steering is the way to go for such a big boat. The last thing you want to do in a storm with a bad main power plant is sit on the transom trying to keep the bow into the waves and run the radio calling for help at the same time. With the remote throttle and shift kit and a real key switch up under the cabin, you will weather any storm (sorta) Trying to run an electric will get you in the papers.
how can i build a wooden boat with a cabin with motor, room for at least 2 twin size beds, storage and boat controls, steering wheel etc, so can someone show me plans for a boat like this ? thanks! :)
It is a great idea, and for this type of boat, it is much easier to do then you might think. It is however probably not as "cheap" as you might think.
The "boat epoxy" (which is the miracle ingredient of boat building) is not cheap - neither is marine paint. But if you are willing, you can build a boat for about 50% of what you would pay for an equivalent vessel new. What you gain, in most cases is in the labor (it is your own). What you loose in building your own - it time... It will take much more time then you think it will (especially if this is your first boat to build, and more so, if you do it right).
Building your own verses buying used however, (dollar wise) is either a toss up, or building is likely to cost you more then a good used one. The advantage to building is if you have a three year project, you have about two and a half years to pay for all your materials. So to some degree, you have financed your own boat over this short period.
Can you do it? Sure you can... And I encourage it - if your reasons for doing it are all the right ones. The biggest benefit to building your own is "confidence". When it comes to repairs & maintenance, anything that might go wrong with it, you can fix... after all, you built it in the first place.
If is is a labor of love, I encourage it. If on the other hand you think it is a way of getting a boat "cheap", then I don't. While it will be a lot less then a new "store bought production boat" - It won't, by any stretch of your imagination or pocketbook - be cheap.
The link below has lots of good information on boat building. If you browse their site, you will learn a lot about what you are getting yourself into... I build all my own live aboard size boats and I encourage the dream and the project... but it is not for everyone. It takes a great deal of fortitude and discipline to finish your project in a timely manner with results you can be truly proud of.

I am planning on buying a 22 ft. 1992 Sea Ray Cuddy cabin boat with 5.7L V8 Mercruiser. I want to use it to go to Catalina Island from OC area. The island is about 3 hours away. Do you think this boat is OK to go in the ocean with this much power?
Pick your weather and go for it. It seems like you are off on the time to go to Cat Is. as I remember the song,
26 miles across the sea......... 3 hrs at 9 knots would do it.
Your 22' Sea Ray is a planing hull and should shorten that time considerable.
I am refitting the interior of my Hunter DElta 25 Fixed keel. and I am seeking ideas for the interior fittings.
I have had the boat from new and use the layout plan given to me by Hunters.
use Rhino Lining...
