Boat Cover

We have a 16ft runabout open bow. We are having difficulty finding a really good boat cover that wont tear on our window from the weight of water and snow. We have tried propping up the center of the cover, with a pole, but that makes tears also.
We are tired of spending hundreds on boat covers that tear before a year of use. Can you point us in the right direction? We have Overtons catalog, but there are so many to chose from!
Also, what can we use to keep the water and ice from collecting in the first place?

the problem is not the cover but the sharp edges on the windshield. go to your favorite hardware store and get some pipe insulating foam covers. they are allready slit. place then over the sharp edges of the window frame. this will protect your boat cover.

I got some gasoline on mine and used dish soap and a brush laying it on the ground. I then water hosed it clear. It left a stain.

I'm currently making a boat cover for my sailboat. I'm using canvas because I have the material readily available to me. I'm concerned that my seams may leak. I plan on coating the cover with waterproofing spray to help shed water and leaves. The seams will be under stress and I'm looking for something other than the waterproofing in a can in which to seal the joined pieces and still afford protection from leaks. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Triple stitched, flat felled seams in canvas should not leak without any sealant. I have a cover from the below link for last NINE years in year-round sun & it is still in good condition. Cover was 6 or so years old at least when I got it but was winter stored under cover.

They may have example of the above. Also if the canvas is not UV protected you are wasting your time & energy.
Sell the canvas & buy the cover....

I have a 2000 Sea Doo Challenger that came with a boat cover. I would like to know if I can pull it with the cover on.

Check the tag on the cover - it should tell you. If not, there should be a manufacturers name on the tag. Give them a call - they'll know for sure. If it's not trailerable, get one from West Marine or Boaters World. Good luck !! Pete

How is this cover tied down when the boat is docked in the water.. It shows straps to tie down on the trailer but how is it tied down once docked...

if the cover does not have tie down loops sewn in along the bottom edge then sew in some using nylon strap material. you can hold the cover on the boat by using sand filled bags, suspended from the tie down loops, or even sand filled plastic jugs tied to the tie down straps. the weight of the sand will hold the cover on the boat.
