Can I register a Magic Tilt Boat Trailer with a Valid Vin Number without Papers?

I just found out yesterday that the Magic Tilt boat trailer that I'm going to look at today does not belong to the person that's selling it. He's selling it for a "friend" that he cannot get in contact with. He has the signed registration for the trailer, but in my state (NY), you need a DMV form MV-82 signed by the owner in order to legally transfer registration.

The trailer is manufactured by Magic Tilt and I'm sure it has a VIN #. But I was wondering whether I could register it as a homemade since there is no other way to register it. What should I do?

Assuming your trailer has a beam axle, it is probably bent, a welding facility, or RV repair facility, mught be able to straighten it, if not it may require replacement.

what would it be used for, like he tilt option, when loading and unloading a boat


Karly it's supposed to aid in launching and retrieving the boat from the trailer. When you back the trailer into the water loosen off the wench cable and make some slack in it about 10-12 ft or so, then lock the winch again so the boat does not drift away. Now release the tilt pin push the boat back and up at the same time, the trailer should tilt up reducing the amount force required to launch.

P.S. I find them more trouble than their worth but give it ago and see what you think.

How to determine fair price for boat?

I own a 1988 Bayliner Model 1510 Bass Trophy. My only problem is the boat is immaculate. If is has 100 hours on it I would be surprised. Most of the time it has been stored away. The motor (50hp Force) has been checked and serviced by the local outboard place we trust. One windshield is cracked. The only option it has of large value is power trim and tilt. New tires and hitch on trailer. I do know about Force being hard to service.
