And again

YOU sure do have a test.

You need to study the material and find the answers. The whole idea is that you will learn about boats and boat safety. If you can not do the on line test / course try a class room setting. The life you safe may be MINE or a passenger a family member or even your own.

1989 Force 125 HP outboard one year later?

Some of you may remember my asking about my purchase of a 1989 Maxum 19.7 foot cuddy with a Force 125 and a 2002 Venture Trailer for $2800.00 last year? I have heard alot of bad things about any Force outboards and just have to say this..... Mine is still running like new at 20 years old now...

I am an aircraft mechanic and winterized it properly and changed the spark plugs, lower unit oil, all fuel lines, battery and impeller over the winter also. Just ran my boat last Sat and it still runs like new. I also spent the past month wet sanding the oxidation off and polishing the out side of it also. Now it looks great and runs awesome. I actually have the cash to buy a new boat but decided to wait a few more years since my '89 is still giong so strong.

I just want to know where all the hate toward Force outboards comes from? I am a mechanic and take care of my things better than average. I have had no problems except for mine being hard to start, that is all. My Force is so hard to start though that I always take my portable battery jumper and an extra battery on all outings. I have trouble shot this hard starting to the neutural safety switch and will replace that shortly.

Thank You

Scott

Loved all those answers- Your neutral start switch only effects the starter, not the ignition. here is where the "start" problem is -I've started:these engine by the hundreds. Remember "pilot error?" well that chrysler must have it's throttle open before it will start. Are you aware of the "cold start" throttle setting? (also called neutral start). It is the silver or black button in the middle of the throttle arm axle. Push it in (or pull out ) and run the throttle up to the stop. Now go look into the carbs and see if they are opening just a little.

this said, get the engine spinning BEFORE you hit the choke button(push in the key switch) The choke should close completely. If not, you can adjust it to close. As soon as it fires, let up on the choke. Keep the engine running by semaphoring the choke. Soon it will be up to temp and you will need to back down the throttle.

This works every time or you have some malfunction.

The size of the refugee flotill was staggering. For the most part, these were cubans who owned the boats. typically 26 to 40 footer relatively well equiped for local pleasure boating. Reportedly the tanks in numerous craft had inadequate fuel capacity and the vessels were carrying additional fuel in portable containers, this the first wave resulted in the transit of 1000 to 1300 boats to Mariel in relatively short time
