Do inboard boats require a trailer different than that of an I/O or an outboard with the prop being on the bottom. Or will any generic boat trailer be fine
Inboard boat trailers usually have a different layout for the prop shaft, prop and rudder, so yes they are different from other trailers. Want proof, look at a trailer for a tourney ski boat, a trailer for a boat with an out board and a trailer for a boat with an I/O.
www.bennettmarine.com Whether your boat is gas or diesel powered there are considerations for safety, equipment & operation you'll need to ...
I know Inboard outboards need to have water to start, but do inboards? Or can I jsut start it on the trailer to see if it will start?
You will damage the raw water impeller in 30 seconds or less. You can not put the muffs on, they are only for outboards or i/os. There are adapters that can attach to the sea water strainer, or you can stick the suction line from the r/w pump in a bucket.
It is an inboard motor.
You say this is an inboard engine boat? Is the prop located at the end of a shaft that passes through the bottom of the boat at a low angle? If so, you can't raise the prop.
Now if this actually an inboard/outboard (engine is inside the hull, but the drive is located on the transom), what the others said is correct. There should be a button to hydraulically raise or lower the outboard drive unit. The button is often located on the shift/throttle handle.

Anything will help. Is there a trailer switch that i am missing.
I hope you have a Mercruiser I/O if so there can be a "trailering switch" on the dashboard or you might have two switches on the control handle...... Have someone watch the drive. put it fully down, (don't) crunch the prop on the ramp...driveway. then using the same switch raise it. It should move only a short distance, before a limit switch stops it. Then if there is a dashboard switch it should raise it the rest of the way, but it might also be you have to use both switches on the control handle. If you are pushing the right switch and nothing is happening but a clicking sound, you might have a bad solenoid. or electrical connection. Or there could be other problems......But most likely you are not pushing the right switch...... I think it's a rocker switch on the lower left row the right hand switch, but it's been a long time ago.... Good luck!
I recently purchased a 2004 Four Winns Freedom I/O boat. It was winterized for the cold months up here in the great lakes region, and there is a tag on the trailer that says:
"This boat has been winterized. Do not use or place in water prior to dewinterizing."
Does it really have to be dewinterized, or can I just put it in the water and start it up?
When winterizing anyone with any sense will put all hoses back on but it will be bagged so water cant get back into the engine if the lift goes down. The draincocks are left out to make sure all water is out. Make sure there is no bags on your water inlet hose, put your draincocks back in charge your battery and rock on. As far as marina's charging for it and it being a scam, Do you think I should go back all the way across the lake and put those things in and dewinterize it for free???? Not everyone is as "mechanically inclined" as yourself so they need us techs to do it. Not only that they have lake homes and want thier boats ready to run when they come down for the weekend. It may be a scam to you sir but I assure you we dont scam noone.
