Im wondering the average weight of a 12ft jon boat flat bottom with nothing in it no equipment no livewell motor ect.
Not how much the weight capacity is but how much the actual boat itself weights
I have no truck or trailer hook to pull a boat on a trailer so Im wondering what the weight is so that maybe one man or two could pick it up and take it to the lake
two decently strong men can carry it, but exact weight depends on exact model and materials used in the maknig of it. i have seen 12' plastic boats and 12' aluminum boats, alum weighs more.
you may also want to consider a canoe, or scanoe (flat on one end, ideal for mounting of an electric trolling motor). they both go on a cars roof pretty easily. with or without a rack.
and you would be suprised at how light a 15' or 16' aluminum with a small outboard is. my dad's 04 honda accord can tow my 16' aluminum boat just fine, its just that you know its there while my full size chevy truck you can forget it.
as aluminum boats can last forever if not wrecked, quite possible to find one at a real good price. but aluminum boats can outlast motors easily, so finding a used one with a good motor may not be as easy.

Its a 14 foot flat bottom boat, its all welded no rivets. The bottom is 3 ft wide. The floor in it has a spray on rhino lining. Its the kind boat that has a steering wheel. The motor is a 1985 mercury, it has 40 horsepower and I was told it runs good. Also there is another motor that is coming with the boat that runs but has too much inplay in the crankshaft so it makes the spare motor unreliable. The trailer has had the bearings replaced and has been regreased. It is also a tilt trailer. All of this for $1700. What do you think? Please provide an explanion with your answer.
Before you buy it, make sure the seller will put it in the water so you can hear it run. The fact that the second motor has problems makes me wonder why he's including it in the sale. It seems a bit odd to me. If you can, get the seller to take you for a ride in it, and listen to how it shifts from forward to neutral to reverse. Any odd sounds other than the "clunk" of a Merc going into gear would make me suspicious. If he doesn't want to run it very long, that also might indicate that some thing is wrong with it. If all seems OK, then it's a pretty good deal. See you on the water!

My O'day 20 sailboat when sitting on the trailer with weight on the keel pushes in the bottom of the boat slightly. Around an inch to 1 1/2 inches. Enough that the center bottom of the boat is higher up than it is at the sides, so the bottom apears to taper into the boat slightly when looking at it from either end, Its a pretty flat bottomed boat so I dont know if this is normal or what.
Its up on 2 beams right now for a new coat of bottom paint and it all looks normal now with the weight off the keel. I noticed the ammount of sag when I was jacking it up off the trailer using the keel as a jacking point.
Its an old boat, built in '78
Something to worry about?
we had a SJ21 that had a similar problem. normally the hull will return to it's proper shape when its in the water. the indentation can be fixed by adjusting the support of the hull on the trailer to get some of the weight off the keel by slightly raising the hull supports on the trailer.
we had best results by using long carpet covered trailer bunks instead of rollers.
the ultimate fix is to reinforce the keel area inside the hull. this is done by beefing up the area around the keel with epoxy and fiberglass cloth.
i have a 14 foot flat bottom boat and a ford ranger with a 6 foot bed. i do not yet have a trailer for this boat and i want to know if i pick it up and put it in the bed of my truck is i legal if i strap it down tight enough or is that just a big ticket waiting to happen. i live in michigan if that makes any difference at all?
In short its both unsafe and illegal to transport a boat this way for any reason.......
So I watched the trailer for "The Bridge" movie, and I was thinking.
What exactly kills you from jumping off a bridge, not just the Golden Gate, but in general, but for example, we'll say the Golden Gate.
My first thought was the cold of the water would put you into to shock or something. But I know that if you land on water flat on a side or back or something, you can actually break your neck or back, so could it also be that? I dont think you would drown, unless you didnt know how to swim.
But what really kills you? One of those? But I remember seeing on the news once a guy dives off a bridge, not sure which one, but a bridge, and it wasnt a low bridge either, it was pretty high, he jumped after a 20$ bill slipped out of his hand and he dove to get it, I remember hearing he got some cuts from the dive I think, but was rescued by a boat, and did get the bill. So he didnt die, or is it maybe just the will to want to die, and just let all your air out and sink to the bottom.
When you fall from a great height and hit water the impact can knock you unconscious which greatly increases your chances of drowning. Also, impact with water at high speed can cause serious injuries which also increase your chance of drowning. Do a belly flop off the high board at the swimming pool if you don't believe that hitting water can hurt you.
