I have a 18' catamaran I'm going to have to end up shipping to hawaii. It is 8' wide on a trailer and no longer than 18' long. It does however have a 30' mast and trailer and boat all together ways about 650-750 lbs. None of the shipping company's will give me a straight quote. Thanks
The short answer here is: For sure... it will be cheaper for you to sell the boat and buy another in Hawaii.
The California coast is lined with USCG Captains from the Ports of Long Beach and Oakland that get $10,000 a trip to sail owner's vessels to Hawaii. And most of his business comes from boaters who have already obtained prices to have their boat "shipped".
Shipping companies are funny about giving quotes... They know from experience what kind and size vessels are likely to be shipped after the the owner recovers from the price shock... And quite frankly, an 18' catamaran doesn't fit the profile for a successful bid.
Happy & Safe Boating,
John

I have a a 16' G-Cat bought used in very nice condition and would like to keep it that way. I do not have a way to store it indoors and I have tried various "tarps" that just disintegrate in less than a year. The sails and boom are in large PVC tubes attached to the trailer. I am mainly looking for protection of the mast (25') and the boat itself.
here is a site that has better quality boat covers for your cat. you can also have a mast cover made out of top quality sunbrella fabric

LUNGFISH PROJECT: JARCAT 6 CATAMARAN TRAILER SAILER FOR SALE
The JARCAT 6 is a delightful little, hard to find, trailerable catamaran. The boat was originally bought to go straight in the water until it was decided to pull it out and give the paintwork and interior an update. After many distractions with work and the like (usual story) the refurbishment project was mothballed several years ago and now it is time to sell this fantastic bay sailer. Comes complete with full set of sails (See Below). Trailer is a Custom Made Tilting Trailer built specifically for this boat. As mentioned earlier this type of trailer makes "one-man" operation a breeze.I have installed new wheel bearings and all the lights are functioning.Trailer has a very small amount of spot...
