I need to add amber running lights to the side of my boat trailer, which has four pole flat wiring. The amber lights only have a hot wire and "automatic" ground, connected to the mount. Do I just tap into the brown running light wire with the one live amber light wire? This doesn't seem like a complete circuit to me, but there's only one wire connected to the bulb, so I don't see any other way to do it. Thanks!
that's exactly right, just make sure the screw that provides ground goes into bare metal on the trailer
This is a new boat trailer and we've made some simple changes to prevent chafing of the wires.
My trailer wiring is a 4 plug hook up: Yellow, brown, white, green.
I have a 96 Grand Am w/ hitch, no wire hook up for trailer yet.
Do I hook up the male connection wire harness(car to trailer plug) to the matching colors on the wire harness going into the tail lights of my car ?
should I slice in with those snap connections, should I slice some insulation off the wires going to the tail lights and just "T" connect them in ?
is there a "plug in" available that just connects to the plug in module for the tail lights to the car ?
I only use the trailer 2x a year for a few miles (dump the boat in, then it has a slip all summer, til the fall haul), so I've been "WINGIN IT" with no lights and a friend driving behind me for safety, Thank you for any help.
Yes, you tap into the tail lights inside the trunk. There is no T-connector for that year/model. You will need to get a converter, since that year Grand Am has a seperate turn signal circut. Reese part #74209 or Draw-Tite part #18130, both priced about $18.00. Make the connection inside the trunk, ahead of the tail lights. Scotch locks are fine. Don't let anyone tell you different. Sometimes GM uses matching color coded wires (brown yellow, ect). Otherwise use a test light and check each circut.
Hi, need to wire up an old boat trailer with new cable as the old cable has been removed. Preferably an actual diagram. Wider than 2m meters so needs marker lamps as well. Thks
For New Zealand
Don't know if you have Repco in Un Zud - over here in Oz there are complete LED kits for Au $100 at the moment.

Anyone have a wiring harness location (Diagram) for a t-connector on a 2004 chevrolet Malibu classic , I want to install a flat four connector for a boat trailer and can’t find it.
If you have one, it would be in the trunk, under the mat; unless your car came from the factory with a tow prep package, plan on splicing in a universal connector, wire by wire. You also might try looking up behind the rear bumper. My 2000 Blazer has a harness, but no plug.
Iam having trouble with my boat trailer brake lights & turn signals. My for ranger p/up has a 4 pin recpt & the boat trailer has a matching plug. All lights on truck are functioning. The trailer lights come on when I turn on truck lights, but the turnsignals & brake lights wont work.I cleaned both contacts but still nothing I also looked for broken wires & did not find any.what to try next ??
Check the plug on the truck. My brother and I had the same problem he checked out the boats wiring and harness only to find out his plug was corroded, and Its a 2006 dodge ram. He had to replace the plug on the truck.
Simple stuff good luck.

Boat Trailer Kits: How to Check Boat Trailer Brake Lights ...
Boat owners who find it necessary to make regular checks of their boat trailer brake lights may find it helpful to keep boat trailer kits handy so they can have ready access to the tools they need for these inspections.
Things you'll need in your kit:
Steel wool Wire brush Spare light bulbs Circuit tester Step 1 – Have a Helper Work With You.If you're ready to test your boat trailer brake lights, you'll find it helpful to have a helper with you, someone who can apply the brake pedal while you're checking the trailer lights.
Step 2 – Test Your Brake LightsWhile your helper is in the truck pumping the truck's brake pedal, go to the rear of the trailer where you can easily see the lights that should be flicking on and off. If you find that some of the lights are not working, replace the non-working bulbs.
