How to replace trailer wheel bearings?

I am trying to replace the wheel bearings in my boat trailer. I can only get the front bearing out. I pulled the rear seal but can not get the second bearing out. Please help. Pictures would be a big help!

First you need to find out what bearings the wheels have in them. to do that, jack the wheel up, remove the bearing cap or pressure bearing cover to gain access to the bearing nut. Remove the bearing nut (you will have to remove whatever is securing it) slide the outer bearing off of the shaft, remove the hub/wheel assembly and set it on the ground with the inner side of the tire up. There you will find a seal that you will need to replace also. Find the numbers for the seal, write them down, use a long punch and knock the seal out, clean the outer bearing assembly and find the numbers for that assembly and write that down also, the inner bearing should have fallen out when you knocked the seal out but if not you might have to knock it out too. You will want to replace the cup also so clean it off (It lives in the hub) and copy that number down too, punch the ‘race” out using a long punch and then go the auto parts store and purchase the parts you need for the wheel(s) on your trailer. There is a possibility the inner and outer bearings on the hub are different so you need to check the inner bearing for its number too. Once you have the parts, grease the bearings and put it all back together. =)

trailer wheel bearings?

just cleaned and repacked my boat trailer wheel bearings, and was just idly wondering how long would a bearing last if it wasn't greased, just put straight into the hub and driven away. i'm sure that some one out there has done it.

It sounds like some people have had past bad experiences on this subject. In a mathematical/physics context it would be a weight/speed type of deal. In the real world, the rules of Murphy are in play. Murphy rules say the following "As the distance from a repair parts store and the cost of towing go up, the rate of failure will also raise."

Murphy math rules:
Fail rate = money X time X distance X aggravation X stupidity

But then again, this is just my two cents worth.

what is the value of an 1980 Glasstream bass boat? ( what would you pay?)?

The outboard motor on the transom is a 60HP Johnson Evinrude Triumph. The sale would include the bow mounted, foot controlled trolling motor along with a nearly brand new Minn Kota transom mount trolling motor as well. Some of the other extras would be the Eagle Fish Finder, 18lb river anchor with rope, life vests, Transom prop for motor while in transport, tie downs, side bumpers for docking, the dog ear setup for land running and a couple other things. Some of the work done is as follows: New pressure treated plywood decking, new carpet, new live well pump and bilge pump, new gas tank and fuel lines, new battery, new wiring on boat and trailer to include new lighting on trailer, new water lines for pumps, new plugs in motor, new distributor in motor, new fuel pump on motor, new bearing buddies on trailer wheels. I wanna know what you would pay for this?

thank you for answering.

I'd give you $50 if you deliver to my home.

Now, why don't you advertise it on Craig's List or eBay and find out what someone would really pay for it.

bought a vehicle thats not how it was described, where do i stand?

i just bought a boat from a private seller, he told me that the engine was completely find and all works as it should, i asked if we could start it but he said we cant because it needs to be in water to start them, and that i would have to trust him, and that we know where he lives and have his phone number etc, so i thought sounds genuine enough and bought it.

tried it out at the weekend the engine wont idle, reverse gear wont work at all, its a night mare to start, and it wont pump water (water cooled)

ive been emailing, phoning and texting but hes ignorning me.

also his listing said theres a boat cover and good trailer included, to which i found a bust wheel bearing and the cover was torn to shreds. im not overly bothered about them, the engine is the worrying part!

what can i do about this?

In a private sale, the only obligation the seller has is to describe the item truthfully. Unless that description was written down, you're on a hiding to nothing.

For future reference, you can run a boat engine for a short time out of the water. You can also get hose attachments that enable you run them with tap water cooling.
