Boat Trailer Tires And Rims

I have 10 inch Mini wheels on my boat trailer and am having trouble finding tyres at a reasonable cost. Will any other 4 stud wheels, maybe 13 inch, bolt on to my existing hubs?

Sometimes the fenders can be adjusted if you need more room for the taller wheels.

The 10" wheels were meant to give your rig a lower profile for whatever reason.

I think that it would be a good idea to go to the biggest wheel that will fit.

This would mean less chance of bearing failure and easier retrieval out of the water at rough ramps.

I agree with 45 Cal. Any 4 lug wheel should fit. Wal Mart has the best price on galvanized ones with the tire.

Do I have to use trailer tires. Do I have to use trailer rims. Can I use any rim that fits. I know the tires have to hold up to boats weight, but what about the rims.

Actually this is not a big problem, but yes trailer tires and rims are the right thing to use. Contact a boat trailer distributor near you and buy the tire and rim already mounted. Be sure you get the same size and load range, you have now, or tell them the model of the trailer and the weight of the boat. While your at it, pull the hubs and check the bearings, re-lube or replace as necessary. If equipped with brakes, make sure they are working. It's just good maintenance......

I have a size of 205/75-14 from the seller but i cant seem to find that online. Only thing i can find is 205/75-R14. Sometimes with a ST infront of the 205. What is the R and where can i find the right tires? I need 2 tires and one rim. Any suggested websites...

The R indicates that the tire is a radial design. The ST indicates that they are designed for use on a trailer only, as opposed to a passenger car tire ("P" prefix) or a light truck tire (LT prefix). You would be best served with the ST205/75/R14, but you can also legally use the "P" series tire on trailers in most states. You may NOT, however, use the ST tires on a passenger car.......

The tires and rims can be had from many local sources. Check your yellow pages for tire shops and trailer dealers. Even a local farm supply store like Quality Farm and Fleet or Tractor Supply Company may have these in stock.

I have a 12 foot boat trailer that I bought to haul my aluminum boat. The trailer is home made. I need a spare tire and rim for the trailer, but I have a problem. The rims on the trailer are split rim style, not split ring. No places around me have a rim like this and most have never seen this style before. Driving out to the country to find a rim like this is out of the question. The rim is held on by the nut and cotter key. It would be cheaper and easier to just by a different trailer than refabricate this trailer. How can I get a rim for this trailer?

It sounds to me as though you have wheels for a piece of farm equipment, as they have wheels like that. I suggest that you get a new axle as the small wheels that you have will wear out quickly and do not have water-proof hubs. You will always be messing around with the wheels and bearings.

I have a boat trailer that currently has ST215/75D tires. One tire and rim is ruined and the other is in good shape. I want to replace the ruined one with a ST225/75D and do the same to the other one when it needs replacing. Will using one of each mess anything up. I was under the impression that the only difference was the load rating.

You have one on each side of the trailer? They are different size tires, but only slightly (about 7 mm radius). I wouldn't do it, but I've seen a lot of crazy tire stuff tried.

You're right about the load rating, but the load rating is higher because the tire is larger.

In this case, the smaller tire is also at least a little worn, so the size difference is even more than with new tires.

You might not get yourself killed, but why not buy two of the same size tires and sleep better?
