Boat Trailer Set Up

I'M trying to hook up wireing for a small boat trailer it has a 4 pin plug for my vehicle which is a 2002 chevy tracker no trailer brakes, no winch, vehicle not set up for electric brakes, I just need to know where to hook up the red hot wire leading to my vehicle

On a small trailer there should be no red wire on the trailer. You should have White=ground, Yellow=left turn+brake light, Green=right turn+brake light, and Brown= parking+marker lights.

Just set up lights on my trailer. When my truck's headlights are off, all of the trailer lights work; brakes and both directionals. When I turn my headlights on, no lights on my trailer go on and even worse, the brakes and directionals won't work while my headlights are on. I had to get a converter because of the separate lights on my truck. Any ideas why the tail lights won't function?

First thing to check is that you have a good ground. Low voltage electricity is funny stuff and will not work without a "good" ground. If the vehical or trailer is old establishing a ground can be difficult. Failing that look for a fualt in the converter. Over the years I have had several fail right out of the package.

Are boat trailer actuators necessary or can I replace my current worn out acutator with a standard or basic tralier hitch coupler?? I' d rather spend the $100 less in parts for the basic hitch set up. Its a dico 60 rated @ 6000 lbs. the trailer holds an 18' ski boat aprx. 2500 lbs.

It might be a legal issue, depending on your state, if you disable a safety device, and there is an accident it would be held liable. A lawyers dream so to speak.
Your trailer and boat will probably exceed the 3000lb limit imposed by most states for towing without brakes.

The 6000 lbs rating is pretty much a standard for axles and brakes.

AS STATED BELOW: where exactly and what exactly am I connecting a jumper cable to? I'm not too savvy at all when it comes to this stuff (in case you couldnt tell)=)

brake and directional are the same circuit on the trailer. take a good 12v. battery and a couple of test leads and see if each section of the harness works. if your trailer is a "tilt" type, you need a jumper across the latch.

first time boat owner. getting the motor tuned up. it is a used 25 hp evinrude. Want to trailer the boat a few hours away when camping this summer, don't want it to fall apart on the highway. Concerned that the nuts holding onthe wheel are all rusted. Should I replace with brass or stainless? or leave well enough alone? Is there a site I can go to for what to do, what to look for maintenance wise on trailers. It is a bunk trailer for a 16 ft aluminum fishing boat.- nothing fancy. appreciate the help !

just clean up the wheel studs using a wire brush. Then take each nut off and then put some anti-sieze compound on the studs and put the nuts back on. Wheel bearing grease or similar will do the same thing. The grease or anti-seize stops water from getting on the studs.
