This question is for all the boat owners out there who regularly trailer their boat to a public launch site. Beyond the normal expectations of a storage facility such as security, cleanliness, and ease of access, what amenities do boat owners want to see at a dry, open lot storage site? Water? Electricity? Detail area?
Please provide what you would expect to see at a "full service" boat storage facility.
In most boat storage facility there are few if any amenities. The purpose of the storage is to have a place to safely and legally park one's boat. They never supply electricity (at least not in my state). They pick up trash and keep the lot clean. The facility should provide a large dumpster to discard trash and a washdown area is all one can usually expect. When paying only $35 to $100, you're not going to get much.
At a Full Service storage facility, they charge upwards of $300 per month. There you can expect the boat to be removed and placed into the water for you (Dry Stack Storage). They may clean your boat and even keep the batteries charged too. Some of these places will even have indoor storage for those willing to pay the price. Many contract with authorized dealers to have service performed for thee maintenance and upkeep at additional costs. At places like that one can expect a monthly bill of $300 up $1000 depending on the size of boat and additional care you ask for.
Boat Trailer Repair Miami 280 Northwest 79th Street Miami FL 33150 (305) 791-0704
A friend of the family gave us his older fishing boat and accompanying trailer because he moved into a condo and didn't have room for it. We have a bill of sale from our friend for zero consideration, the green Ontario permit for the trailer, and that's it. The boat has been licensed as there are numbers affixed to the hull, but no other paperwork comes with it. It is an older boat from the mid-80's and the trailer is from 1985.
My spouse and I have never operated a boat and plan to sell it. With respect to licensing, I was told to contact Service Canada. For the trailer, I am to deal with the Province of Ontario. We want to take the correct steps to get to the point where we can just sell the boat to someone - the problem is that we have no idea of the value or the steps that need to be taken to sell the boat. Do I have to get a new plate for the trailer? When I sell it, do we have to create a bill of sale for the boat and the trailer separately?
Thanks in advance....
I also forgot to ask - What constitutes "proof of ownership"? is the Bill of Sale from the previous owner to myself enough?
have owned many boats,
you have to register the boat with dept of fisheries (Can Gov)and the trailer with the department of transportation (Ont Gov)
You may or may not have to pay for gst on the value of the trailer and boat, along with the value of a trailer licence. The licence is a lifetime thing and only the one time charge. There is no fee for registering the boat.
The bill of sale form the previous owner should be ok.
hope this helps

The buyer of our home tried to charge us $2,902.38 for removal of some items, dumpster fees, and best of all storage fees @ $35.00 per WEEK, for a old rusty boat trailer . I never recieved a ligitamate bill from this guy just letters stating what we owed him. Can he just charge us what he wants? Can this go on your credit report, or, is the next step small claims court?
I didn't live in the home for 6 years, my ex did, I started to clean it out before closing But she decided to closed when I took my children on vacation for a week. I signed papers by faxing while on vacation. Everything was rush rush. When We got home she had moved even though she said she wasn't moving yet. I did go to the new owner the day I got back to make arrangements for clean-up, but he didn't even shake my hand when offered, and kept on walking away from me. He was a huge P--ck
This would have had to be part of the final contract. You should remove everything from the home, but if there was no specific clause in the contract, then they got the place as is, and you can tell him to take a hike. Check with the realtor and/or the title company that handled the closing.
If you do owe something, he'd have to show you estimates and final bills for the costs, and they would have to be reasonable; he can't mark up the costs or present you with a bill for things like a dumpster without giving you the actual invoices.

I'm comparing pricing between two different haulers and they are quite different......1st quote is $1.25/mile one way......2nd quote is $1.50/mile one way. Are these fair quotes for transporting my new boat on a new trailer for me? Are these quotes cheap or expensive? What is the average price to pay for this service?
As far as the cost per mile you are being quoted, both are normal. For $1.50/mile, ask them straight up why they are $.25 higher than another quote you’ve received. There is nothing wrong with telling them you have a lower quote and they may be able to actually justify the extra expense. After all, this is a very large investment you are talking about. If the extra $.25 will get you a company with more experience and better equipment along with covering escort fees where needed and permits, GO FOR IT.
Another thing you will want to find out is if they base the mileage on hub miles, Ran McNally, Household Mover’s Guide, or whatever. If it is Household Mover’s Guide, you will be paying anywhere from 5% – 15% extra. You don’t want Hub miles either. With hub miles you will be paying for every extra “detour” they make into a truck stop or parking area.
They will probably be required to get permits if the boat is oversize for the highways. If this is the case, find out exactly what the route is and get the miles from a mapping program if they are not already listed on the permit.
I’m sure I don’t have to go into issues about insurance and the company being adequately covered.
Lastly, this is your money and your boat. You call the shots here. Don’t spend a single dime on any company until you are comfortable with them. If they work out of a trailer in the back area of the marina with worn out equipment and drivers that look like they haven’t had a bath in two weeks, just imagine how they will treat your boat. Professionalism is worth the extra money. Your boat will thank you for it in afterward.
I want to provide a service to consumers who can not move their boat with their own vehicle. Nationwide travel OK. Must be on their own trailer. Truck and driver provided. What do I need to start this business?

Boat Trailer Parts Are an Important Factor
When you choose a trailer for your boat, purchase price should not be your most important consideration. The long-term cost of your new investment, which includes the boat trailer parts, modifications you may need to make your boat to fit the trailer properly, cost of servicing, and its durability for the climate in which it will be stored and used is a better way to determine value. Over time, a great bargain may end up costing much more than you intended to spend. During the years of service you expect to receive, you will likely replace tires, brakes, wheels, wiring or other parts...
