How can I find out the serial number of a trailer if missing the last digit of the number?

I moved to Pennsylvania from a state that did not require trailer registration or tags. I need to have the ser. no. verified by an inspector before I can get a title but the last digit of the ser no. is missing from the sticker. The trailer manufacturer could not help me, the boat mfg did not sell my boat on this trailer and I cannot find the person I bought it from several years ago. Is there a data base or way to research the serial number I have and run down the last digit?

Never heard of a state that didn't require tags on a trailer that's used on the road.

There's no database. Best you can do, is try to do a title history. If you never titled or tagged it, legally, it's not YOURS.

How can I get an appraisal on my canal boat (mid 1960's) that was made in England. The mfg is out of business

It is a Creighton "Gull". It looks like a camper however it is actually a mini houseboat that is built on a trailer, ie: the trailer stays with it all the time. It is 17' overall but the cabin portion is about 15'. It sleeps 4, has a closet for a port-a-potty, a gas stove burner, a sink. a slide open sunroof, a dining table which converts to a bed, a bunk bed which converts to a couch... It was licensed in Indiana when I bought it as a "House-car". The title had been lost so I retitled it. I have state issued boat #'s for the front, and a trailer license plate for the back. I've had it in the water and it is certainly sea-worthy. I have the original brochure for it too! There was a similar craft made called a "Car-a-Boat", (also in England). It is made of fiberglas on the bottom half, and tin covered wood on the upper half. It appears to be one of the few left in existence, and most defineatly the only one in the states. I want to find it's value for insurance and possible sale of it.

The easiest way to find the value of anything is to look around and see what other comparable items are selling for. In fact that is how the marine surveyor will do it. He will ask you what you think it is worth, what you paid for it, and compare that value to what other boats of that type and condition are selling for. You can do the same thing yourself.

If you wish to get a a second opinion of the boat's condition a professional marine surveyor is well worth the money.

A few boat questions? (I'm new at this)?

I am looking into buying a fifteen foot MFG boat (1962) With a johnson 55hp and a trailer. My first question is will my 1995 ford ranger haul this? My second question is this hp big enough to tube and water ski with kids around age 10-15 or adults all weighing under 150lbs each? And my final question is how much would you expect this to be to register in Maine? (First the boat then the trailer). Also do i need any insurance if i'm using it on a very small lake? if so how much would this cost????

I had a 16ft zodiac with a 40hp and could pull someone out of the water on a surfboard but was really difficult. The more gear and people you have in the boat the harder it will be. As far as towing I had a 1987 4cly toyota pick up with a six pack camper and had no problem towing multiple boats up large grades and steep boat ramps. Sometimes if I had the camper off I would have to throw in a few sandbags or have people sit in the bed to make it out of steep slippery boat launches without spinning wheels. Registration should be cheap considering the year. In CA I only had to register the trailer once due to its age, 1957. I would imagine your case to be similar. I never insured my boat but had vessel assist since I was in the ocean quite a bit, never did have to use it even with a 1955 Johnson outboard.

  • Boarding ladder and winch mount system for boat trailers and the like

A wide variety of devices have heretofore been devised for transporting loads of various configurations. For example, boats are commonly transported on trailers, and are often stored on trailers during periods of non-use. An important trailer function is providing means for pulling a boat or the like onto the trailer. This is often accomplished by means of a winch , which can be either cranked by hand or electrically powered.

Accessibility to a trailer-mounted boat can be a problem. For example, boarding ladders of the type commonly provided with boats are typically designed for access from the water and thus may be located too high for convenient access to a boat on a trailer. Moreover, the accessibility to a boat on a loading ramp can be significantly restricted due to the submerged position of the portion of the trailer under the boat's stern.
