I will be towing a 23' boat and do not have fenders on my trailer. I was told by a co-worker that i need to have fenders to be legal...is this the case? or can i get away with towing without fenders...thanks

well if you hit rocks your tires will throw rocks at your car and boat and at other cars.its more of a saftey issue and you will probably be ticketed for not having fenders

Are homemade boat trailers required to have fenders in the state of Washington. Thanks in advance.?

Yes and no, depending upon the wheel placement in relationship to the trailer.
All trailers MUST provide some sort of cover over the tires. This can be in the form of a fender OR on some trailers that are covered on the bottom and the tires are covered with the trailer surface. Such as flat bottom trailers with the tires underneath.
The purpose is to keep road debris from flinging off the tires and into the path of other vehicles.

Boat trailer question?

Trailer: 13" rims 5 bolt, galvinized.1.5 x 3" frame. Problem: Boat rests on 4 bynks only. Keel dosent make it to the keel rollers. Cant lower bunks any more because bottom of boat hits top of fenders(replacing). Is there keel roller brackets avaiable with more than A 5" rise? Or is it possible to go to A 12" wheel to lower the fenders? 3000 lb. boat

Why worry a lot of boat don't touch the rollers> The roller are used when loading & Unloading> If you want more support make the bunks longer>

Boat trailer fenders prevent mud, water or debris from splashing or hitting the other vehicles driving on the road. The fenders are located above the tires of the trailer. They are fixed with bolts and nuts. It is easy to access these bolts, in most cases, without lifting the trailer with a jack. However, you can use the jack and lift up the trailer to work, if required.

Put the wood blocks against the tries, so that the trailer will not roll. If you have fenders with mounting holes behind the wheel, jack up the trailer. Remove the wheel by removing the lug nuts, using a lug wrench.
