Boat Trailer Carpet

I am replacing the bunks on my boat trailer. What is the best way to attach the carpet to the wood bunks? staples?

I recarpeted the bunks on my trailer. I cut the carpeting wide enough to cover the top and sides of each bunker, then used my staple gun with the longer staples, I think they were 5/8". Staple one side first, using no staples on the top where the boat will ride. Then stretch the carpet tight over the top and pull down on the other side and staple there as well. If you want a top quality job that will hold up a very long time, use stainless steel screws and washers instead of staples. I'm not sure glue would hold up to submerging in water. My repair has been in place for 3 or 4 years with no problems.

I have a pontoon boat that I have on a trailer with carpeted bunks. The boat is used in salt water and has expensive anti-fouling paint applied.The boat is a bitch to launch & recover due to the friction between the pontoons and the carpet. I want to install glides (slides) over the carpet but the glide manufactures don't know if the paint will be worn off. Has anybody had experience with this? Mike

It seems to me that if the boat is hanging up on the carpet to such an extent that it jams, then plastic slides could not possibly remove any more anti-foul than the carpet already is.

I have not had this as a problem myself, as the boats I anti-foul tend to stay in the water most of the time, and the ones I pull out a lot I don't anti-foul.

We just bought a jetski about 5 mo. ago (used). I was wondering how long the bunks last on the trailer? Does replaced the carpet on them help extend their life?

It needs new paint, wench, carpet (maybe the wood under the carpet too), rims. Basically a complete overhaul. Any tips tricks and info is appreciated. Also, If you know of a great place in MI to get this work done or get the products to do this work would help.

Trailers are straight forward, you can buy complete kits for everything, and its as easy as bolting and unbolting, then reverse order.
Try this.

strip it down, paint first, reassemble axle and then do wiring.
Easy, but if you think it needs additional supports or welding, take it to a pro.

since it sounds like your problem is the carpet and not the wood, I would say get a better grade of marine carpet that won't fall apart from getting wet all of the time. Google marine carpeting.
