We have to make bunk boards for our boat trailer. The boat is aluminium and we worry that pt lumber would corrode the metal but we want something that will last.
If you live in the south, then cypress lumber is available to use. Just cover it with carpet and it will last the life of the boat. If not from the south, you have no choice but treated lumber, or replace on a regular basis.

I am looking at an ad right in my hometown for a boat. It is a 1974 glastron 16' boat. The motor is a 1974 70hp evinrude. The boat just needs a few things. It needs new shift cables and throttle cables. How much will this cost to get those??? Is it hard to install or do i need a professional to do it??? Finally the trailer needs new bunks. What part is this on the trailer. Is this expensive also??? Everything all together totals for $400 obo. Sounds like a bargain. Is it even worth it?? Also can i tube, water ski and wake board with the 70hp evinrude with all riders being under 160lbs???????? This is definitely worth 10 points.
Cables aren't that hard to swap out but you need a little mechanical aptitude and patience. I only use morse cables, your choice but there is nothing I have found that is as good or better in thirty years.

They will cost what they cost - contact the nearest agent. It may be easier to get you local dealer to fit them, that way you don't have to stress.
Bunks are the sections of wood with typically carpet or nylon strip as rubbing surfaces either side of the hull, about chine level which are used to stabilise the hull (stop it rocking left or right) when fully home on the trailer. Again not very hard to fix - probably. But that is all subject to first seeing it and only then coming to a meaningful conclusion. If the bunks have rotted away what about the wheels, bearings or the trailer steel sections themselves?
Its a thirty four year old setup now - and this means all sorts of issues might be waiting to surprise you. The engine if running fine should have plenty of pulling power for what you plan to use the boat for, but if the cables are stuffed then the engine may not have run for a long time, and may not run at all now.
You have to approach this very cautiously I think - it may be better to get something a bit more modern, possibly in better condition and yes more expensive. In the end it may yet be the cheaper option.
If you don't know much about boats you need to find an unbiased party to look at it with you, and work out the likely problems and costs before you spend a dollar.
Good luck.

How to Install Boat Trailer Bunk Glides | DoItYourself.com
The boat trailer bunk glides play an important role. Normally, boats get pitting, due to the reaction of salt water on the wood leaching through their carpet. This corrodes even the aluminum. You should insulate the boat from the carpet, by installing the trailer bunk glides. The glides can be mounted over the existing bunk, and are fixed with stainless steel screws provided with them. The glides are available in strips made of marine grade polymers, in required width and thickness, up to nine feet in length. The bunk glide strips can be drilled, countersunk and directly applied over the worn out carpet.
