I recently bought a trailer for my boat. The guy gave me the plate with the trailer. It has no tags and is not registered. Do I need to go to secretary of state and what do I need to get done for the trailer?
The trailer is home made. Will that be a problem?
When you say plate, are you talking about a Temp Tag. ???? The DMV will issue you the title and new tags. They'll want a bill of sale and a mfg. cert of origin....that is unless the guy built it himself, that's another story. Good luck!!

looking to buy 07 or newer truck to pull 88 aluminum mirrowcraft boat and trailer. want to last for a while. can 4 cylinder do the job. also will be my main vehicle. gas will be going up and most of my driving around town. lakes are within hour drive. live in western pa. looking at nisson or tacoma that have more towing than say ranger.
considering we towed a 16 ft tinnie regularly with a 1976 Torana 4 cylinder car (2lt) and I currently use a Mercedes fwd 4 cyl 2.9l van to launch my 14ft glass boat, I don't see the need for a `truck' at all unless by truck you mean anything that's not a standard sedan
my 14ft fiberglass boat is legally on the lightest class trailer registrable (<750kg) and requires no brakes on the trailer even- checking against the rego papers on all the cars here- even the smallest japanese car here (holden astra) can legally tow it with ease and thats my sisters little buzzbox!!!

Is the boat heavy ? (3000 lbs ) car tires will not hold up. sidewalls are not strong enough. Make sure they are trailer tires
My boat trailer tires are wearing heavily on the inside edge on both tires. Almost as if the axle is bending in the middle and causing the wheels to bend in at hte top and out at the bottom. What could be the cause of this problem? How can I correct it. I just boght this boat/trailer, but did not notice this wheel wear problem before.
It is very possible the boat is too heavy for the trailer. At the front of the trailer is a tag that will tell you the max capacity the trailer can carry. Get the weight of the boat and see if is close to the max capacity you will be over it by the time you add fuel and gear. If this is the case you will need a new trailer or contact the trailer manufacture to see if it can be upgraded if the frame will support it. If you bought this new from a dealer, take it back and let them fix the problem.

Maneuverability and safety should be of prime consideration when towing any non-powered vehicle or trailer. Whether you choose a fixed hitch or one that pivots to enhance enhance or unloading material, special care must be taken to ensure the trailer is attached safely and securely to the vehicle that is towing it.
