I am looking for a boat trailer kit online. I am not looking for a manual or guide on how to build one. I am looking for a kit to hold a 12-16 foot Jon boat. By kit I mean you order it and it comes to your door step with every part, bolt and nut needed to make it. does anyone know where I can find something like this? If necessary I could order bunks or something like that to mount separate but a complete trailer package is ideal! Thanks for your suggestions/help!
Boat trailers are manufactured by several companies located all over the country. They ship by many means but it's very expensive to ship Common carrier to an individual. Often more than the cost of the trailer. Most company's ship "not assembled trailers" to distributors, by the truck load. They then can assemble various models which can be picked up or delivered to dealers as needed. What I'm trying to say is it's cheaper to buy from a local (at least nearby) boat dealer. They can get it unassembled, but the cost of assembly on the size you want is usually $50 or less. Years ago I bought trailers like this. You had tongue, axle, and frame, then a box of parts that had the springs, wheels etc. So, I've assembled quite a few small trailers, but since the 80's it's been far cheaper to have them assembled. They stack 3 to five, one atop the other and pull them to the marina. Total cost is way cheaper than having my shop assemble a bunch of parts. Not to mention the liability if it's done wrong. I hope this helps. I'm including a useful web site.....

I own a 16 foot pleasure craft, and i want to take it across the border into canada to use while i'm on vacation. It is registered in Michigan (boat sticker) and meets all of the coast guard regulations (lights horns emergency flares)
are there any additional papers or things i may need to clear customs and operate on lake huron (close to shore)?
make sure that all the trailer lights safety chains and things are in order. in ontario the boat has to have an additional chain or tiedown device in front in addition to the winch rope. I have known people to be stopped and checked for this! have proof of ownership and proper documents for both trailer and boat. if you are just going on a trip its very easy, but to leave a boat in canada requires alot of paper work(for summer, month etc, and return to use it later). in canada the pfc's have to be blaze orange mandatory. check with local customs or go to the ontario ministry of natural resources for upto date regs. ps check boat for left over beer bottles or other illegal items that are not allowed into canada(cant drink at all in boat or have open containers that means old emptys too. live on borderlake in mn and ontario have boated in canada all my life.

Hello everyone. I want to buy a jet boat. the one I want is 15 feet. I was told boats and trailers under 16 feet don't have titles. Is this true? He lives in wisconsin and I live in Illinois. Thanks :)
The trailer has a title just like a car. The boat has a regristration slip with the boat serial numbers and the owners name. This is proof of ownership. Don't buy it without the proper paper work. It could be stolen.
I HAVE NOT YET GOT MY LICENSE AND LOVE FISHING I HAVE AN OFFER THAT INCLUDES A 16 FOOT 1969 STARCRAFT OPENBOW BOAT, 1973 JOHNSON 115 HP MOTOR NOT WORKING AT THIS TIME, AND A 16 FOOT TRAILER. I'M LIVING DAY BY DAY JUST LIKE MOST OF US ON OUR FINANCES AND WAS HOPING THAT SOMEONE CAN LET ME KNOW THE LEAST APPROXIMATE COST IT WOULD TAKE FOR ME TO TRANSFER EVERYTHING NECESSARY TO GET IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER TO MY DRIVEWAY USING (IE. TEMPORARY TAGS IF AVAILABLE OR WHAT EVER) I'M JUST LOOKING FOR THE CHEAPEST WAY POSSIBLE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO PASS UP THIS DEAL WITHOUT REGRETTING IT, PLEASE HELP ME WITH THE DECISION SO I DON'T MAKE A MISTAKE. THANKS FOR THE HONEST PEOPLE......
Whoa... better slow them horses down there j-dope,
I wouldn't be in such a rush to buy a soon to be 42 year old boat with a 37 year old engine that is "not working at this time" if I were you.
Would you buy something that old... If it was going to be your only car?
Probably not.
And man... living "day by day" sounds even worse then living "payday to payday". And it doesn't sound like a good time to be owning a boat - much less buying one.
I am sorry if this sounds more like fatherly advice then something you want to hear, but I am the father of 3 kids now in their 40s... All three of them own boats, two of them live on their boats (as I do) full-time; and I'm sure they would advise you the same way.
You have: boat registration, trailer registration, insurance, battery, parts, points, plugs, oil, fuel, filters, cleaning supplies, PFDs, VHF, etc. etc. It all adds up fast. And if it is "fishing" you love, then most likely an aluminum jon boat with a trolling motor would suit you even better. And that will probably cost you less then getting (and keeping) this 37 year old motor running. Just a thought...
Good luck,
John
