14 Foot Boat Trailer

I will be getting a 12 foot aluminum v-bottom row boat soon. I need a trailer and the cheapest i could find is a 14 foot v-bottom boat trailer that held a fiberglass boat.Is there a difference? Could i do this?

Simple answer, yes, it can be adjusted to fit pretty good. I've done it many times.

This is what I've found so far A lund 14footer is about 180 Lbs
a Shorlander trailer is about 245 lbs
a 9.9 mercury motor 65 Lbs
for 515 lbs ad about 85 extra pounds of stuff about 615 Lbs total
and you are 400 lbs under the 1000 lbs Class 1 hitch
is my thinking correct about this?

Weights will vary with make and materials of construction. What you have sounds about right however, it's always best to put the loaded unit on a scale and make sure. Tongue weight is also inmportant and can be controlled with load position.

The wheel studs are corroded as are the lug nuts. We were able to remove the lug nuts with great difficulty in order to remove the tires to get them fixed. Now the lug nuts will not go on anymore. I heard about this thing called a "thread chaser" or a "tap and die". But how is anybody really supposed to fix something like this? It's been in sea water before.

Don't bother for $20 dollars buy the complete hub bearings and studs with nuts> Replace it all> It comes as an assembly> The other studs are in the way to try and turn the die>And getting the studs out you will need a acetylene torch and slug hammer>To much work> Replace them>

My husband bought a small fishing boat with a 14 foot trailer. The state of Michigan will not give us a license for the trailer without verification of the trailer's weight. It is a Skipper B trailer, model #GLT 14. No help from manufacturer. How can I find the weight without taking it to certified scales? Thanks.

Even if you *find* the weight online, you said Michigan is demanding "verification." It must have been registered before he bought it, isn't the weight classification on the previous registration enough? Did they not tell you what they would accept as verification?

Is it the trailer weight they need, or the maximum gross weight rating, which would include the heaviest load the trailer could carry?

I bought a 14 foot boat trailer from New Jersey and got a notorized bill of sale from the previous owner which I sent in to Pa dot.I received a letter saying thats not acceptable in Pa.I called N.J motor vehicle dept. and was told thats proper in N.J..Pa dot has my paperwork,how can I get a title so I can use this trailer?

If PA still gives you trouble, contact the prior owner and register it in New Jersey. You can drive a NJ trailer in PA without problem. Then next year register it in PA using your NJ paperwork proving that you are the current owner.
