I will be getting a 12 foot aluminum v-bottom row boat soon. I need a trailer and the cheapest i could find is a 14 foot v-bottom boat trailer that held a fiberglass boat.Is there a difference? Could i do this?
Simple answer, yes, it can be adjusted to fit pretty good. I've done it many times.
Boating on White Meadow Lake. 12 foot Jon Boat (with camo), 9.9 HP Mercury outboard, 27 lb Minnkota Trolling motor.
I recently bought a trailer for my boat. The guy gave me the plate with the trailer. It has no tags and is not registered. Do I need to go to secretary of state and what do I need to get done for the trailer?
The trailer is home made. Will that be a problem?
When you say plate, are you talking about a Temp Tag. ???? The DMV will issue you the title and new tags. They'll want a bill of sale and a mfg. cert of origin....that is unless the guy built it himself, that's another story. Good luck!!
Coupler fits a 1 7/8in. ball
Left-to-right adjustable bunk boards

I have a 12 foot boat trailer that I bought to haul my aluminum boat. The trailer is home made. I need a spare tire and rim for the trailer, but I have a problem. The rims on the trailer are split rim style, not split ring. No places around me have a rim like this and most have never seen this style before. Driving out to the country to find a rim like this is out of the question. The rim is held on by the nut and cotter key. It would be cheaper and easier to just by a different trailer than refabricate this trailer. How can I get a rim for this trailer?
It sounds to me as though you have wheels for a piece of farm equipment, as they have wheels like that. I suggest that you get a new axle as the small wheels that you have will wear out quickly and do not have water-proof hubs. You will always be messing around with the wheels and bearings.

Dan

I just purchased a 12 foot fiberglass boat and I don't want to get a trailer and hitch. The previous owner of the boat said I would be able to fit it on top of a vehicle. I drive a Land Rover Freelander and he suggested that I put two 2 by 4s horizontally tied down to the bars on top of the car and rest the boat on the wood while also tying that securely to the vehicle. Are there any other suggestions?
the reason for the 2x4's is because the boat might be to wide. the car comes with a factory rack which runs down both sides of the top of the car. how else could i car top it
Thule and Yakama makes a rack system that uses the factory rack already on your vehicle and allows you to use their load bars of different lengths. I had this setup on my Land Rover Discovery. Google Thule or Yakama Racks. You can also see a "fit guide" on REI.com
On my Land Rover Defender I welded a rack out of steel and bolted it to frame. I dont recommend this for you, but it looked perfect on the Defender.
You may be able to get the boat on the roof with this setup. there are also rollers for sea kayaks. Keep in mind how much weight you're putting up there. See what the recommendation is in your owners manual. The roof can only take so much load. We're not just dealing with the weight of the boat now, but how much force is exerted as as shear load when the car is traveling down the highway, stopping and accelerating.
Good Luck
The boat is a 12 foot long, green john boat with no motor. The trailer is not a boat trailer but the boat fits perfectly on it and is what we've always used to haul the boat.
Both are in great condition except for minor rusting on the trailer and the paint on the boat is a little faded.
How much can I get for these items if I sell them together? I have been offered $1,000 for the two of them. I am thinking this is actually a lot more than these items are worth but I was just wondering if I could sell for more.
10 points to best answer!
Thanks in advance :)
Used John boat $500 or so and trailer in fair condition $250 so $1000 is a good offer...take it!
