boat engine ventilation?

I recently bought a small boat with an outboard motor. It is a small speed boat with the battery and portable gas tank in an area behind the seat that has a cover that can be opened to access the battery or the tank and also store life jackets and things and then closed. Is there any requirement to have a ventilation fan in this area ? If the boat is sitting for awhile could the gas fumes get ignited by maybe a spark from the battery connection or wiring ? This has an outboard engine.
I know inboard engine boats must have ventilation just not sure about a situation like this ? Thanks

It seems the answer is yes you do. Check out this link:
http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2004/j ulqtr/pdf/33cfr183.610.pdf

This is a portion of it.
Natural ventilation system.
(a) Except for compartments open to
the atmosphere, a natural ventilation
system that meets the requirements of
§ 183.630 must be provided for each compartment
in a boat that:
(1) Contains a permanently installed
gasoline engine;
(2) Has openings between it and a
compartment that requires ventilation,
where the aggregate area of those
openings exceeds 2 percent of the area
between the compartments, except as
provided in paragraph (c) of this section;
(3) Contains a permanently installed
fuel tank and an electrical component
that is not ignition protected in accordance
with § 183.410(a);
(4) Contains a fuel tank that vents
into that compartment; or
(5) Contains a non-metallic fuel tank:
(i) With an aggregate permeability
rate exceeding 1.2 grams of fuel loss in
24 hours per cubic foot of net compartment
volume, or
(ii) If the net compartment volume is
less than one cubic foot, having a permeability
rate exceeding 1.2 grams of
fuel loss in 24 hours.
NOTE: Reference fuel ‘‘C’’ at 40 degrees Celsius
plus or minus 2 degrees Celsius from
ASTM standard D 471 (incorporated by reference,
see § 183.5) is to be used in determining
the permeability rate.
(b) Each supply opening required in
§ 183.630 must be located on the exterior
surface of the boat.
(c) An accommodation compartment
above a compartment requiring ventilation
that is separated from the
compartment requiring ventilation by
a deck or other structure is excepted
from paragraph (a)(2) of this section.
I think you can take care of this with a "natural ventilation system".

Mounting a fish finder on a fly fishing pontoon boat need help?

I have a Eagle Cuda portable fish finder and I want to mount it on my single man pontoon boat but I am at a loss on how to do it. My pontoon is a fishcat 9 and the seat sits out of the water. I know I need to mount the transducer under the water then I need to figure out how to mount the finder itself where it will not be in the way for casting rowing and kicking. Any of you have any suggestions or pics of similar setups that may help?

OutCast (maker of the Fish Cat float tubes and pontoons) makes a bracket for mounting accessories, such as fish finders.

Here's a link to the accessories section of their website: http://www.outcastboats.com/outcast/prod ucts/accessories.aspx

You might even consider buying a Fishin' Buddy depth finder with a strap that goes around the actual pontoon.

Hows my Intro for my novel?

You, probably don’t know the meaning of sick. Sure there are the common colds, the flu, silly little runny noses. That is not sick. Try feeling like you’re on a boat, constantly for over a year. Light headedness, taking over. Vision disturbances at random times. Oh, how about chest pains, for no reason. Or there is the not being able to breath randomly. Head aches sending you into tears? Wait, how about temporary blindness or not hearing a word you say. That my friend is sick. And if you ever have to deal with this, I’ll try and help you, anyway I can. My names Alex, and this is my story.

“Alex? Are you okay?” Mia asks me, putting her hand on my shoulder.
“Oh, just really dizzy that’s all.” I mumble, looking at the floor.
“Okay, well my class is leaving, so bye!” she says happily, running after her class. I stand in my line, blinking my eyes trying to get the dizzy feeling to stop. The school bell rings, and I turn facing forward.
“Alex!” Loren my friend yells.
“what?” I ask lazily.
“Look at my earrings!” he says pointing to his ears, his new earrings were blue claws. I shudder thinking about how he puts them in, considering there size.
“Alex, your white!” he says loudly.
“Really? I had no idea, Are you gonna tell Alexis she’s black too?” I say sarcastically, suddenly feeling nauseas.
“No, seriously your White” he says worry spread across his face.
“what do you mean ‘white’?” I ask, feeling dumb for even asking.
“Like a ghost!” he exclaims.
I put my hands to my cheeks, there as cold as ice. I pull my sleeves of my hoodie over my hands and put them back over my cheeks.
“Im just cold” I mumble.
The teacher soon comes out and were taken into the classroom portable. I take my binder out of my black and white back-pack. The light-headed feeling overcomes me as if my head is a balloon being filled, just a little to much. The classroom is booming as we get ready for the day to start. I feel myself stumble back a bit, disoriented from dizziness. A knot forms in my stomach. I numbly pick up my stuff and follow everyone to math class.
In 6th grade the classes rotate to each teacher, which there were 3 of. I first went to math, then Science, then back to my main class, in which reading was taught. I ascended the classroom ramp along with everyone else, and the other class exiting pushes there way through the chaotic mess.
My legs grow weak, as we all enter the threshold of the portable. I feel like iv been hit by a train. I walk past my seat, straight to the teacher, who’s sitting in her desk.
“Mrs. Woolley, I have to go the nurse.”
“What’s wrong?” she asks, taking her glasses off, looking at me.
“Im gonna pass out” I mumble, my vision fading.
She scrambles out of her seat, and has someone take me to the nurse.
Soon im lying on the nurses coot, having my temperature taken, while my body lightly convulses. I try my best to hide it, with success. My pulse is sky rocketing, past the hundred mark, for no apparent reason. The nurse asks for my mothers number, I give it to her, every sound seems muffled, then the phones to my ear, and im hearing my mothers frantic voice.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had an “Attack”, Im just usually able to hide them. But this, I just cant.
The nurse is threatening to call 911, and then my mom shouts into the reciver
“Im coming to get you right now”
The line goes dead, I hand the phone to the nurse, and she hangs it up, and tells me to lie down.
I look around the room, reading all the posters, a considerable amount of no smoking ones. A crushing feeling in my lungs makes hard to breathe, then my mom walks, no more like runs into the nurses office. She helps me stand, a dizziness over comes me and I fall. We try this over again more slowly and get me standing. The nurse walks out to the car, and me and my mom get in. She doesn’t bother going home first, and takes me to the doctors office down the street. I stumble inside, and they take me into a room immediately. The Doctor asks the normal questions. ‘Why are you here today?’ ‘How much to you weigh’. But then he orders a test. An EKG, at the time I didn’t know what it meant, but followed the doctor to a room with a large machine. He attaches wires to me and it measured my heart beats, and more. Soon, there calling an ambulance, and im being wheeled onto it. They do another EKG, but the EMT tells me something strange.
“Your is beating irregularly, you know?”
I shake me head, and go to sleep
This was in 6th grade, but now im in high school, And everything changes in high school.

There are a lot of grammar mistakes here - mostly you are using the wrong word. Your for you're, there for their, nauseus for nauseous, there for they're, were for we're. to for too, etc.etc.etc.
This might sound picky, but if you plan to go anywhere with this, it is a real turnoff to run into countless errors of this type - and publishers won't even consider it. If you really don't know the difference between these common hononyms, you should learn them, because it's going to be a continuing stumbling block for you. You also aren't constructing contractions properly - there is a hyphen in 'I'm' (and the I should be capaitalized. Several other contractions are hyphen-less as well.
