I have a '89 Maxum Bowrider, that is in need of new upholstery. I was wondering how difficult it is to do? Also, is the only thing I need to do is buy the vinyl, cut it to the shape I need, stretch it, and staple? Is it that simple? Thanks!!
It IS that simple...I upholstered many a scooter seat, and a couple of cars...

i want to build a seat for my boat and im not really sure what 100% waterproof fabrics there are on the market or would i need to just use waterproofing?

Your local vehicle& boat upholstery shop usually does this work. Before you get gung ho about having this done, try to get estimates from multiple shops and don't make any buying decisions yet.
Second, if its several pontoon boat seats or all of them that need fixed, just check out the prices for new boat seats. You might come out almost even in cost of new ones versus repairing them, factoring in both material and labor.

I have re upholstered a few boat seats and will offer what wisdom I have gleened. If we are talking about single fold down seats, it's probably not worth the effort. By the time you buy your material and replace the usually rotten wood, you could have replaced them with new. Now if we are talking about a more expensive seating, or perhaps some that are no longer available, here are some thoughts. Spend a little extra to buy good material that will stand up longer against UV rays. You will be glad you did two years later. If you want them to last, I use marine grade or treated plywood for all base and framework. Lastly, make sure to use stainless steel staples to hold everything together.
