First and foremost make SURE you are putting it on a solid sturdy surface that will sustain the stress as you swivel around !!! THEN...you can bolt down a pedestal to put it on or you can mount it on a box built for it mount to. Make sure if you build a box that the box is at least the size of the bottom of the seat itself so as to increase stability. And last but not least if you are mounting this in a v-hull boat with a floor in it make sure the lag bolts closest to the side of the boat do NOT penetrate the hull also once you fasten it all down tight....I have seen this happen...no fun then.
high-flying action no matter where you sit in the boat. Starboard stadium seat swivels and locks into additional rear seating, without giving up ...
I have a 14' aluminum boat and the have like bench seats across the boat and its just sheet metal with foam underneath.....so there is no way to use a bolt and nut....what kind of screws or bolts do i need to use to bolt the swivel bases where the will not pull out???
I don't like to drill a hole in any part of a boat if I can avoid it - as it is just another water entry point and potential failure point. If I am going to do so I want to use duralac or similar to avoid any corrosion issues with the stainless self tappers (short 8 or 6 guage round heads will be good - the larger the better within reason) and bed the mount on sikaflex as an additional insurance against water entry and movement.
I like the mechanical advantage of a base frame mounted over the existing bench seat, possibly using welded tabs vertically front and rear so the forces against the screws are shear rather than direct pulling - very solid and strong done well. The wider the base, within reason, the better for strength, as wide as the existing seat is across is probably about right.
I have seen clamp type seat bases and they seemed quite robust and firm, I would perhaps be tempted to use a little sikaflex as added grip insurance - you really do not want a seat to come adrift in a boat as it can be very painful - or worse.
Any frame you make up should have all potential sharp bits and corners cut off and well rounded. It is surprising how soft we humans get when wet, we slice up and tear quite easily so this is very important.
Good luck!

Or is there a formula I can use to find out?
It will be in small lakes on calm water. And is there any other suggestions for a swivel seat? maybe a 4 inch rise?
I have a 12 foot jon boat and that might be pushing it.
I have a small aluminum row boat which I use for fishing. It currently has three bench seats and I am wondering if there is any way to attach swivel seats to those original bench seats?
Got a' 14' Jon boat with bench seats and have the swivel clamp on type (link) on the Bow (front) and the Stern (rear) of it. Don't have ta' necessarily go with Cabela's ~ the MS's was tellin' me she saw the same ones (White not Camo) at Walmart for a lot less ;)... < ' ( (( > <

want to build myself out of plywood etc.without adding too much weight etc.what type brackets do i use etc.
ok,,,if you have a rowboat to start out with,,,you can get yourself some marine grade plywood or treated plywood which would be cheaper,,,4X8 sheet,,,cut to fit from your middle seat to the front seat,, I would use 5/8 to 3/4 for a good solid deck,,,and also it will be thick enough to screw the pedestal base mounts to, You can do the same for the back deck,,,in spots where you need brackets to mount to the side or rear of boat ,,a good stiff "L" bracket will work just fine,,,but you must drill hole in boat to mount,,just use stainless steel bolts and nuts and washers,,,,all the material you can get at Lowe's,,,Home Depot,,,ect. you can also get cheap marine carpet to cover the plywood decks there ,,and the outdoor adheasive for the carpting,, I converted 4 of my rowboats in this manner and it worked out just great,,,Hint,,when you cut the plywood to fit,,take into consideration that the carpet will wrap around the edge ,,so leave enough room for it. It will add weight to your boat but it will be nicer to fish out of. The pedestal base,,pedestal,,and seats can be purchased at www.basspro.com Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's ,,They have cheap setups,,,Hope this helps

Surviving Football Withdrawal – a Guide to Recognizing and Recovering From Football DependencyCollege Football’s season ending ‘hurrah’ that is bowl week heralds the conclusion of the 2008 season. For the more balanced among us, this signals the start of a new year and the chance to focus on surviving winter and to enjoy not having to cut the grass. For others, this time of year marks a merciful and justified end to more than four months of yelling, beer swilling, nacho loading and relationship damaging behavior.
2008 was notable for many formerly losing programs. Vanderbilt defeated Boston College 16-14 in the Music City Bowl on New Year’s Eve. This was Vanderbilt’s first bowl win since the Dwight Eisenhower Presidency and came over #24 Boston College. Not since Howdy Doody ruled Saturdays has Vanderbilt produced a post season victory. Vandy is now able to provide proof that the school indeed has a football program. Coming out of the cold after 53 years will provide enough fuel to keep the Commodore faithful happy through the offseason.
