movable jon boat seat?
Seat With A View

I have a 16ft xtra wide jon boat with a 15hp tiller control motor,as you know with a tiller handle you have to sit to one side of the boat do they make a seat base that would allow you to mount a seat that could be slid from one side of the boat to the other?

I don't know if one is made that will go from one side to another but there is one made that will slide 15'' from side to side. it anchors securely to the leading edge of the jon boat bench. The companion part then fastens to the bottom of the boat seat and into the mounting bar. Plate: 9"L x 6-7/8"W. Bar length: 15". http://www.attwoodmarine.com/products/pa rts.asp?productid=1053&path=seating_ hardware&category=15&gtype=2& ;group=1&subgroup=0&categoryname =Swivl-Eze+Products&typename=Economy +Adapters&headername=SwivlEze

I need to know how to add a wood floor to a row boat that has permenatly mounted bench seats.?

My boat has 3 bench seats plus a smaller one in the bow and i am having a really hard time trying to get ply wood cut just right to fit perfectly in the space in the bow. the problem is the slant of the sides as it comes to the point in the bow with it being a v-hull. any recomendations would be nice and i can't use the old floor for a pattern since there is no old floor. any GOOD suggestions would be very helpful thanks.

Try this! Make a cardboard pattern of the bow section, and then measure the height of the wood that you're going to use, then measure the distance of the widest part of the peice, at that height, adding a slight bevel to compensate for any angle that may occur at that height on the sides. ( example ; the straight cut at the rear is 12 inches, but you're using 3/4" plywood, and that same measurement at that height on the sides is 13". You now know that you have to set your saw blade to make a 1/2" angle on the sides.)
You can set your saw blade at that angle, and when you cut the peice out, it shoud fit very closely. If not, use a rasp to clean up the edges until it pops in perfectly. Remember that since it's in the botom of a boat, it may get wet at times, and leave about a 1/16" - 1/8th inch all around for expansion and contraction.

Does anyone know if/how you can customize a small fishing boat?

I want to get a 14' aluminum fishing boat. The problem is that most seem to have 3 bench style seats. I would like to remove these "benches" and put in a plywood floor, then mount seats on posts, add a livewell, and some other misc. bins. I have absolutely no Idea how or if this is even possible. ANY help at all will be appreciated. Websites would be awesome, or if you've done something like this and don't mind getting a million questioning emails, leave your address! Thanks so much, and tight lines this summer!

Seriously... consider buying a boat closer to what you want. OR... buy an open (empty) boat and build it up. It'll be cheaper in the long run and allow more mods in keeping with your ideas. It makes no sense to un-build a boat only to re-build it.

How can I make a homemade outboard motor steering system for a pontoon boat?

I have built a 3 hull 8 man pontoon boat. It is 13' x 8'. It has three hull's and a wood framed platform 10' x 8'. There is a tiki hut framed canopy covering the platform with 3' high bamboo siding around the perimeter. There is wood framed benches running along the back and both sides. I have framed a 2" x 6" motor mount along the back of the hull's. I'm thinking of getting a 8 to 9.9 hp outboard motor for it. I have not the slightest clue how I'm going to steer this boat. There is a 3' low wall that runs along the back of the boat and the out board motor will mount about 2'-6" behind the captains seat. How can I connect a steering system or connect an extension to the throtle where I can steer the boat? Please help?

get yourself some PTO cables, secure em to the motor bracket, you can use a steering wheel but youll only be turning like 130 degrees total so a lever would do just as well.

some people preffer a strait mechanical linkage, like steering on a truck, but for a little pontoon that wasnt built to have remote steering, it would be more cost effective to use PTO cables.

i wish i could post a drawing i just made... it makes perfect sense when you 'see' it.

Can I have a laptop mounted in the front seat of my car, in North Carolina? If not and I am ticketed, what is the penalty? Is it a moving violation? Also if it is in fact illegal, what is the states wording on the law, it is only a plasma screen, I have another car, that comes standard with a plasma touch screen, for the cars operations.

A computer mounted in your car........... can't you just sit it on the seat? Isn't that a bit obsessive? Go ahead mount it and come back to tell us how long before someone steals it.
