Boat Seat Frame

I have an old Edson 16 ft. fiberglass boat which has been converted to a fishing boat with 2 captain's chairs. I want to add a bench seat to the boat to be able to take the kids out fishing too but am not sure how to attach the wood framed bench (which I am planning on making) to the fiberglass floor of the boat. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, etc. I would assume that I could attach a wood framed bench to the floor using fiberglass/resin but I don't know how to do that. Is there an easier way?

Quite easily,,, first, attach pieces of wood to the hull of the boat with fiberglass matt,cloth and resin. then, use stainless steel screws or lags to attach the bench to the wood. I recomend the stainless fasteners because they are just about rust proof.

I can use Windex on and glass, of course, but can I use it on the main frame of th boat? Or something like 409? And what about boat seats? I don't know what is too harsh for them. Does anybody know?

i use simply green for my boat i have a 38 foot formula and from the cover i get the black stuff on the hull spray this, use a terry cloth come off right away simply green is biodegradable it is not a soap where you have to wash it off you can use it on glass to seats to your carpet to the engine!!!!! best stuff....... i get it at k mart or wall mart just look hope this helps

Hello,

I have recently received a 1972 Stern drive (Mercruiser 4cylinder) Marlin Scorpion Boat. I was wondering if anybody out there knows where i am able to find replacement seats for this boat. OR if it would be simpler to go buy a sheet of marine grade plywood and just remake the seats that are in there then have a professional upholster the newly made seat frames. Any positive input would be appreciated.

making the wooden seats yourself is the best way to go. using marine plywood is a good idea. sounds like a great plan.

The leather on the drivers seat of our boat has come unglued from the frame of the seat. I need an adhesive that is really strong that i could use to stick it back to the frame. It's going to fight it because of how it has come down, so again, the strongest adhesive posssible. I just don't know which one would work because there are so many. If somone could reccomend one, that would be great. Thanks.

i work at an upholstery shop. Got to a local lowes or home depot, and get a can of "loctite" spray adhesive. and if its only 1 seat. then use as much as you can on both the base and the seat. and clamp it for a couple of hours.

I have built a 3 hull 8 man pontoon boat. It is 13' x 8'. It has three hull's and a wood framed platform 10' x 8'. There is a tiki hut framed canopy covering the platform with 3' high bamboo siding around the perimeter. There is wood framed benches running along the back and both sides. I have framed a 2" x 6" motor mount along the back of the hull's. I'm thinking of getting a 8 to 9.9 hp outboard motor for it. I have not the slightest clue how I'm going to steer this boat. There is a 3' low wall that runs along the back of the boat and the out board motor will mount about 2'-6" behind the captains seat. How can I connect a steering system or connect an extension to the throtle where I can steer the boat? Please help?

get yourself some PTO cables, secure em to the motor bracket, you can use a steering wheel but youll only be turning like 130 degrees total so a lever would do just as well.

some people preffer a strait mechanical linkage, like steering on a truck, but for a little pontoon that wasnt built to have remote steering, it would be more cost effective to use PTO cables.

i wish i could post a drawing i just made... it makes perfect sense when you 'see' it.
