Yamaha Boat Motor Parts

Hi can anyone asist me im looking a purchasing a boat it has 2 Yamaha 115 Precision Blend Outboards just wondering if anyone knows if parts are still available & are these a good motor? Expensive to run / Service ?

I had a '86 115hp Yamaha on a 16ft Bayliner and yes parts are still available but some are hard to find. There is a place in Minnesota that has used parts for all outbds and I had to get a starter for mine after about four years. You can by new replacement parts for almost anything through many websites and also from Yamaha dealers but they are also expensive. One thing I would do is get rid of the oil injection on them and mix your own oil/gas. The oil injection system seems to be a weak link on Yamahas, in my opinion. I burned two pistons because of the oil injection system.
Great outboard and will run for a long time but used alot of gas during the day. I could go through 12 gallons very quickly running at higher rpms. Bayliner I had wasn't that heavy and it still used alot of gas.

Hi all,
My 1991 225 HP outboard dropped a rod the other day and I am trying to figure my options and I have a couple questions, first off the motor was in excelant condition prior to the rod, there is a new lower unit with about 10 hrs on it.

What I need to know is what years of powerhead can I use to replace this one? Will another HP block such as a 250 work in place of my 225 and will my parts work on it?

Or should I just give up on it and not use the boat for a year till I can afford a new motor(Not my favorite option)?

power heads are usually overhauled if there not completely shot. crankshaft could be another big dollar item. start calling the local shops and ask about assorted options. there are several different ways to go about this. if you can find one with a bad foot for instance. look for good compression in a used power head. youve got the other parts. you might be right about different hp, many ob motors only have a different high speed orifice and prop.

Hi, I have just bought an old sims super v speedboat with a yamaha 50 deto outboard.
Im just getting started and this is my first boat.
In it there is an engine hours counter, rpm - meter, and speedometer.
I dont know where to start with the wiring.
I have steering for the outboard but not remotes for gear and throttle, ad presumably starting the motor but will buy those ASAP.
do I need a 12v type battery to start the motor ? what do I need to hook it up to the outboard ?
where can I look online (aside from obviously google) for help on wiring ?
I know this is asking a lot but even part of an answer would help!

Yes you will need a battery, there should be a red and black battery wire still attached to the motor.

You will have to get a yamaha remote control, or a generic wired for yamaha.
