what happens if you put a long shat motor on a boat designed for a short shaft?

we have bought a new motor and have now realised that the new motor has a longer shaft what difference does this make

What will happen is your bow will lift out of the water, no matter where you set the trim angle, and you will have an incredible amount of "V-spray" between the motor and the transom, which will actually fill the boat with water. You need to add 5 inches (not 4-6) to the transom height, either with a jack plate (expensive), or by safely rebuilding the transom.

how to build a robotic motor boat? i want to know its basic design and structure?

What an open question!

First order of business... a boat. You need to determine some parameters: fast/slow, motorboat/sailboat, large/small. This is entirely up to you.

Most people getting started should get a kit for a model boat. That ensures you've got a good foundation to work from (and directions!). As a bonus, depending upon the kit, you may get servos and a radio, which may come in handy for the following step.

Next, the "robotic" part. Are we talking about it being radio controlled, semi-autonomous, or fully autonomous? What is your boat supposed to "do"? If all you want to do is have an R/C boat, then buy a kit at the hobby shop (mail order, online, whatever) and go for it.

If, on the other hand, you want to do something more "interesting", you may want to look into smaller, programmable logic boards. They will allow you to play around with programming your boat to do what you want it to do.

Alternately, you might be able to get a robotics kit (like Lego Mindstorm) which gives you the building blocks to create your robotic vessel.

from boat design to mass production?

I'd like to run a small boat retail/wholesale business. I want to have my own design (canoe/kayak and all kinds of boats no motors!) and turn the designs into mass production. Can anyone give me some insights and advice? and give me some online source about the whole process (turn design into mass production). I really appreciate it!

You don't need to be an engineer.

Understanding what makes a good boat would be CRITICAL! Your first step should be to learn to paddle. I don't mean doing a few lake laps. Take a class and get good at it. Paddle different boats too.

No boat is perfect. They are all compromises between speed, stability, maneuverability, durability, weight and cost.

The next step would be to build a prototype. Until you put it in the water, you won't know what you have. The prototype doesn't have to be made of the final material, but something that will be functional. They won't take your boat seriously until you build one.

You need to know what your new boat will cost to build. You can put together a material list and costs. Take the material list and estimate how long it will take to assemble each component. Breaking it down will help you avoid randomly guessing.

Assume a labor rate of $30-50 per hour. This covers the labor, scrap, management, sales, and hopefully a little profit.

Boat cost = time x labor rate + materials

How can I build a small motor boat?

Hey, I wanted to build a small motor boat! Something that could hold like.......oh two people probably! Something with seats, and a steering wheel, throtle......you know a motor boat! Anyway, I don't really know where to start, or how much it will cost. That is why I wanted to build it, so save money. Anyway, I don't really have a design either........any help would be appreciated!!

LOOK UP SOME OLD POPULAR MECHANICS MAGS. I READ IT FOR YEARS AND THEY HAVE OLD ISSUES YOU CAN FIND AT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY. ALSO I'VE SEEN PLANS IN SOME OF THE BOATER MAGAZINES. I THINK ONE IS EVEN CALLED "WOODEN BOATS" ALSO TRY THE BOOK STORES FOR PROJECT BOOKS.
