Does a 140 horse johnson 2 stroke outboard boat motor have oil in the crankcase or just in the gas?
If it is a older model it should be a 2 stroke witch has oil in the gas. If it is a newer model it could go ether way.
Need the years and model of Evinrude & Johnson boat motors, that you can put a 140 HP Ev. & Jo. caberator / manufold on the 80,90,110HP motor ? Again the years / model you can exchange of parts.
The 120 & 140 are the loopers and it had it's own system.All other would be to small.

I own a Johnson 20r69d 1969 outboard boat motor. The boat came with a mercury/Kiekhaufer shifter box. I can get the throttle to work but the shifter will not pull the shifter handle on the motor far enough to shift into forward. I tried to adjust the gears many times but there is no way that will work. Should I just get a universal dual shifter? will I have to buy new cables too? I'm just looking for the best way to do this without spending a lot of money.

I have about an 1982 60 johnson boat motor that won't start its not making a click or even trying to start any suggestions?
Plug the plugs and put the motor in neutal. Turn the motor over by hand turning the flywheel in a clockwise direction. If you can not turn it over by hand the motor is froze up. Now if it turns over with your attempt you have an electrical problem either battery or connection to the motor which can either be on the pos or neg side. After that is corrected you can see if the motor will start.

It is in perfect working order and was gone through by a boat mechanic w/ a clean bill. Motor runs, idles and shifts F-N-R good with plenty of speed and power. Includes a metal gas can with OMC hose. I am happy to run the motor anytime for anyone who is seriously interested. It is stored inside and has had the gear oil changed for the winter with mercury outboard lube. READY 2 GO NOW! Once upon a time many, many years ago a crack on lower unit was professionally welded and salvaged successfully after a previous owner had left it in the water over the winter at a local marina (hence the lower motor hours). It has never leaked water in since I have owned it which is now about 10 years. If that scares you I am sorry, but I am honest….I would barter this Johnson motor against ANY newer model of similar HP for endurance, ease of operation, power and starting cold. I mix 50:1 with Merc Quicksilver 2 cycle oil only with very good success in this marine motor. Im asking $ 350 FIRM for the Johnson 6 HP alone. It low idles till the gas can is empty and one would be hard pressed to find a better running motor at a fair price. This is considerably less than what I paid and it runs as good as when I purchased it. REASON TO SELL: I hate to part with an old friend but found an older, slightly longer shaft Johnson 5 HP for my larger boat which made a huge difference for me in rougher water with my larger 17 foot V Hull. I have too many running and non-running boat motors and boats as it is, and am selling some off. OPTIONAL ADD ON: aluminum 12 foot Arrow boat in good shape, tough and fits great with this motor.
