Bought the boat in 2005, but didn't get an owner's manual for the motor.Needs some work on it.......runs sporadically.Would like to rebuild it.
probably just needs a carb rebuild.

I highly recommend the factory shop manual.
Running Johnson 6hp (6 Horse Power) 2 cycle (2 stroke, two stroke) outboard boat engine in neutral after being stored & winterized. It is ...
I have a manual tilt Johnson 1975 (possibly 1976) 75hp Stinger 2 (it was originally orange) boat motor. I'm looking to add a used power tilt/trim setup to make things much easier. What all do I need and what models and years of Johnson/Evinrude will interchange so it will be a direct bolt up?
so just to clarify, I need one from a 1975-1979 3cyl johnson.
Any 3-cylinder through 1979 will work. Later models, I can't say for sure. Earlier than 1975, don't know about those, either.
Before 1980 OMC sold a power tilt unit as a dealer-installed accessory (I have one), it's power tilt only, not trim. Way better than nothing, but power trim would be nice.
A new aftermarket unit will cost you several times the value of the motor; bet you can find one with a blown powerhead.

I recently aquired a boat with a Johnson 1969 20hp motor and have no idea what the fuel mix ratio is. I want to be sure before I start it and there are no manuals that came with it. Is it 50:1?
hi there
you should most definitly use a 50:1 mix J/E changed to this ratio in the 60's and was the best thing they done. A good general rule of thumb to remember the ratio is to figure 1 pint 16 oz. of oil to 6 gallons of gas. Also you want to put oil in tank first to make sure it is mixed up with gas properly. Hope this helps u out.

Trying to repair a 1985 Johnson 300hp boat motor and need intructions and trying to find online for free so don't have to buy manual but all I can find is manuals for sale so thinking maybe looking in wrong places so was hoping someone out there would know where/how to look. Thanks.
good luck, only thing i have found is an online parts cat for omc. you can get a repair manual on ebay for about $25, try www.epc.brp.com
The one I have is manual and it makes the boat hard to launch.
you can order almost anything off the puter these days but the best thing to do is old fashioned shopping around your home town.

Evinrude Boat Motor
I own an Evinrude Lark 35hp boat motor that has no battery. I can't get it to turn over by priming it and pulling the starter cable. I need someone who really knows their stuff for this one. I need to know if I'm doing everything correctly and if there's something wrong with the motor. If something's wrong, I need help troubleshooting.
The Lark was a magneto ignition. You need the key to stop it, not to start it. So be ready for what you wish for. Next they had a mercury kill switch on the throttle handle. So if you over throttle it, it won't start. Some had an automatic choke.(Not the electric switched pull down, but a real auto choke like an old chevy) It didn't work, set choke on manual. That said, do you have spark--with key disconnected or "On". Is any fuel getting to the plugs? Take one out and see if it is wet.. Is the engine still in a running condition--ie. does it have any compression. At least 80# but more important - are they very close to the same. Did you ever run it out of the water. If so It will need a water pump. Only one way to effectively clean a carb: remove, disassemble, soak the metal parts overnight in carb cleaner, blow out all passages with compressed air (or aerosol carb cleaner), reassemble with new carb kits, reinstall, link & sync. Your carbs have fixed jets, no mixture screws to mess with.
