I would like to know if I invest in a electric boat motor if I will be stranded on a windy day. Is an electric boat motor compaired to a 9.9 hp gas motor?
HP is an HP whether it's electric, gas diesel or steam. That's the short answer. Length of running time on charge is the limiting factor.
Here are some sites that will give you some specs so you can make an informed decision

I made a boat motor for my canoe out of a craftsman string trimmer. This thing is awesome!
electric motors list power as pounds of thrust. gas motors list power in terms of horsepower. I'd like to know how they compare.
There is a formula that converts watts to HP but generally you can use 15 lbs of thrust being equal to 1 HP.
Easy to install, instructions & user manual included,Programmable maintenance interval setting
Replaceable internal battery rated for 35,000 hour of operation
It will show both engine RPM and hours of operation,Read up to 99,999 RPM
I just bought a force motor 1990 model 125 horsepower. When you pump gas the motor or crank the motor, Gas will pour out of the upper carb. The motor runs fine at a idle but does not have no power. I took off the carb and look at the values and none seemed to be broke. I really don't have no idea what could be causing it to do this and any help would be appreciated. Thanks
only one thing: the float valve needle and/or seat is worn, or the o-ring is damaged. possible it's a different o-ring, but that's usually the culprit.
you can't detect it visually, but that's what it is.
easy fix, order carb kits (one for each carb), take 'em apart, soak 'em in carb cleaner, put 'em back together using the new gaskets, orings, needles & seats.
might as well do 'em all, and clean 'em while you're at it.
piece of cake for the average do-it-yourselfer with some basic tools and a service manual.

I have an old 10 hp outboard and it will start and run for about 10 minutes, but isn't very smooth, eventually it smokes out and dies. Could this be caused from old gas, if not what could be happening? And what does old gas do to a boat? Thanks for the help.
Old gas gets harder to ignite, it's properties change, to where the fuel/air mixture delivered by your carb isn't good enough anymore. Ethanol-blended gas separates into a layer of alochol and water (with no oil) underneath a layer of seriously octane-deficient gasoline mixed with 2-stroke oil.
If the gas is old, drain the tank and replace it.
But I bet $10 that what's happening with your motor is, the float valve on the carburetor is worn out, letting fuel leak past, flooding the engine.
Rebuild the carburetor and go fishing!

**** NOTICE *****
Beware anyone who tells you to spray carb cleaner down the throat of a running 2-stroke engine -- in the first place, it just goes straight through the venturi without ever getting close to the jets and other tiny passages that need to be cleaned.
But even worse, that stuff is a powerful solvent, designed to strip grease and oil off of metal parts, which is exactly what it will do to your cylinder walls once it gets into your engine.
Your motor gets it's lubricating oil from the gasoline -- if the carb is dirty, the motor's not getting enough oil. Carb cleaner does not help that situation. If you wouldn't run your motor without oil, don't run it on carb cleaner.
I have a 10 HP mercury outboard boat motor and when I try to start it, on gas goes to the spark plugs.
Put a few drops of gas in the spark plug hole if it starts and dies carb if won't start than U have real issues.Do a compression check should be over 100lb

Of course the really cheeky answer would be to put a sail up on a windy day and use pure solar power!!
Sorry, I just couldn’t resist.
Electric motors were very quickly banned from drag racing because no fuel engine can compete. A 200 hp electric motor is about two foot long by one foot or so through. An equivalent to 10 hp will be about the size of a roll of toilet paper. (off the top of my head around 6.5 kW?)
The problem will not be the motor, it will be the battery capacity. Huge strides are being made in this field as we speak, but the other issue will be expense. I have seen an eighties model 8 hp Suzuki with the two stroke engine removed and an electric motor grafted on happily planing a small boat with a big bloke on it. It is great fun for an hour and then you plug it in and wait ten hours for it to charge, that’s the only serious problem with it, apart from the cost of batteries in the first place, but if money is not an issue then it is very viable. And yess you could have a generator to back up your batteries, but why not go diesel/electric instead? It is viable too but a lot of simplicity is removed and that is always a negative in practice. The more complicated a system is the more bits there are to fail.
