First Motor Boat

the motor starts, runs alright for a min get it out runs wide open then loses power what could be the problem boat ran fine last year?

Sounds exactly like fuel starvation.
Is the fuel tank air vented?
Could there be water in the fuel?
Filters good?
Carb need cleaning?

One of those is probably the culprit.

How do I know if the water pump is bad. I took it off and it seams to be turning fine however I am difinitely not a mechanic.

First of all, you might first better look to see that "Sfe Egfw" underware is not plugging up your cooling water intake.

the engine you got is fine for trolling, however it is important to identify your needs as the power of the engine depend of what you want to do with that boat and if the hall will take high powerful engine. good luck mate.

Go to your nearest marina or marine supply store and purchase a set of universal flusher "muffs" which enable you to attach a garden hose to your fresh water intake grates located above the prop shaft. Overton's mail order item number is 21724. You can see it at the following link.

When you get the flusher "muff" described above, attach agarden hose to it and slide it over the water intake grates in your lower unit. Turn the hose on and run the motor for at least 5 minutes. Make sure that the "muffs " do not slip off of the intake grates while the motor is running .

My husband is working on his boat and the engine is off and the power steering pump is not running, when he tries to turn the wheel, it doesn't turn very much and the engine doesn't turn. Is this normal or does it indicate that something may be locked up? any advice would be appreciated, this is our first boat.

Like a car with power steering, the steering still works with no running engine, but will be much harder (stiffer) to turn. the advice to disconnect the leg or rudder from the ram and confirm it (the leg or rudder) moves freely is good. Otherwise connect the flush system and run the engine for long enough to confirm the ram works - even cranking over the engine with the starter will allow some fluid pressure to develop and let you know the system still works. Don't force the steering, but a lot of effort may be needed to turn without power assistance.
